Gloria Steinem: My Life on the Road
WestCoastRunner replied to WestCoastRunner's topic in Arts and Culture
Gloria really is profound in some of her thoughts. She mentioned in the interview that her mother was a journalist and editor but had to write under a man's name to get her work published. Once she had children she gave up that dream to support her husband's dream and Gloria says that her mother's spirit was broken for most of her life. That led her to believe that everyone needs a journey in order to be fulfilled in life. How true! -

Gloria Steinem: My Life on the Road

Exactly, she mentioned that 'domestic violence' wasn't even a term back then. If domestic violence happened, it was passed off as 'just life'. -
Hard to believe this feminist icon is 84 years old and yet she has just published a book (in 20 years) called 'My Life on the Road'. These quotes from her book are highly relevant in today's world. If you want to watch an interview she did in Toronto promoting her book, have a look. Interestingly, she has come out and said that electing a female U.S. president in 2016 will be very difficult and that when men see a very powerful woman, it makes them regress to childhood. Hmmmmm.

This thread should be changed to 'Muslimphobia'. -

Yes, I could see him contributing to environment issues! If I had to compare him to someone here, it would have to be Eyeball. -

I watched this one last night. It wasn't bad. I was surprised at Dirty Fred's little secret. I wasn't expecting that. They were a comical pair and played very well off each other. -

This is personal opinion and nothing more. It's a slam against refugees and immigrants. -

And without those social programs, look how they succeeded. Can you imagine how much more successful they could have been or how much easier it might have been for them. Not sure why you think that individuals today would be any different from individuals in the 1800's. Everyone wants a better life for themselves and their children but you seem to think that Muslims don't have that drive. -

It's a good thing that your refusal has no bearing on 35,000 Syrian refugees being admitted by the end of 2016. BTW, if a Syrian refugee is employed where you work, or move in next door, or the children form friendships with your children, how will you treat them? Will you ignore them, spit in their face, call them names to their face? Just curious as to your reaction when you are actually engaging with them. -

Joe Schlesiner's new column: History suggests refugees can only make Canada a better place. Some excerpts: Refugees have contributed greatly to our country, even those with little education. They have started businesses, and have significantly changed industries. -
I don't understand why you are getting all bent out of shape over a measly 2 month extension for the refugees (for govt sponsored and privately sponsored). Another 15,000 (govt sponsored) refugees from Syria and another 15,000 from other regions will be admitted by the end of 2016. Instead of whining about the process, why not applaud Canadian citizens for stepping up to the plate to provide assistance (even though I feel far more should be admitted). http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/politics/canada-fears-possible-backlash-against-syrian-refugees/article27543438/

What a huge disappointment in your response. I corrected a link to an article from an original post and I posted excerpts from that post and I also included my own commentary and it was deleted. I was not informed so I was left trying to figure out wtf went wrong. In any event, I'm done here.

Nice try but you are ignoring your earlier post that only Muslims get indoctrinated.

Then I stand corrected. As I was typing my response I thought of that. Oh well. Thanks.

This has nothing to do with changes in the house. Start a new thread.
