The Purity of Aboriginal Blood? Who cares?
WestCoastRunner replied to Smallc's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
What if she married a native woman and had a native man inseminate her or her partner. I suppose that would bother you too. -

Of course. As I said before, It's none of my business who anyone marries. -

It's her choice who she wants to marry and have children with. It certainly has a place for her. It's really none of your business who she decides to mate with. -
The Purity of Aboriginal Blood? Who cares?
WestCoastRunner replied to Smallc's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I have no problem with this woman's choice. Attitudes like this certainly do belong in 2014. She has chosen to marry and have children with someone from her race. What is the problem here? This is the beauty of living in a country such as ours. Some cultures here in Canada still practice pre-arranged marriages and that's ok too. It's their choice. To quote this woman: "My search for love has been a complex terrain to tread, but I feel that I’m now on the right path to ensure that my future generations are strong in their indigenous roots and grounding — even if that means I have to take longer to find love than most." -
The Social Progress Index
WestCoastRunner replied to WestCoastRunner's topic in Health, Science and Technology
Granted, the social progress index is in it's infancy but it will surely be improved on in the coming years and there needs to be a better understanding of what this index is used for. The Social Progress Imperative which was previously called the Global Social Progress Initiative will use this index to help to further advance global human wellbeing by reshaping the debate about development. It's mission is: "To improve the lives of people around the world, particularly the least well off, by helping government, the private sector and the nonprofit sector to collaborate more effectively and make better use of the resources available to solve pressing social and environmental problems. Our goal is to effect this change by providing those stakeholders with useful, timely information to help them make better choices". The index seems to be a good starting point to help improve the world in which we live. Measuring the progress of a country strictly by GDP does not accurately measure how a country performs. -

This should answer most of your questions. Robert PIcton Murders This has nothing to do with cats. But it has everything to do with murdered women (living on the fringes of society) in Canada not getting policing and justice that they deserve. -
The Social Progress Index
WestCoastRunner replied to WestCoastRunner's topic in Health, Science and Technology
Canada beats the U.S. on Tolerance and personal safety and personal freedom. Maybe you are reading this backwards? -
I was reviewing the social progress index report that was released earlier this month and since the U.S. and Canada share borders, I thought it would be interesting to compare stats. To quote from the report: "Economic development is necessary but not sufficient for social progress. A country’s overall level of development masks social and environmental strengths and challenges. At a disaggregated level, the social progress index shows areas of underperformance and success for countries at all income levels." These stats are quite interesting and a few are surprising. Overall, they stand up like this: Social Progress Index Canada - 7th U.S. 16th (Iran is 94th) If we break it down further: Basic Human Needs Canada - 11th U.S. 23rd Foundations of Well Being Canada - 17th U.S. 36th Opportunity Canada - 2nd U.S. - 5th We can further breakdown these scores as follows: Calculated Scores: Tolerance and Incusion Canada - 86.79 U.S. - 74.22 Eco System sustainability (The U.S. beats us in this category) Canada - 53.78 U.S. - 59.21 Personal safety Canada - 91.58 U.S. - 77.70 Personal freedom and choice Canada - 91.14 U.S. - 84.29 Health and wellness Canada - 80.78 U.S. - 73.61 Access to advanced education (The U.S. beats us here) Canada - 82.21 U.S. - 89.37 Eco system sustainability looks to be the one that needs much improvement in both countries.

Seriously, why are we having this argument? It is truly a no brainer. -

Very typical of you. Playing one thread against another. Can you not speak to this thread alone to support your argument? I'm not sure what the hell your argument is, except to disrupt this thread to instill your bs. -

As you can see, I am passionate about issues regarding women and children. I will do everything I can to contribute to this and that includes dismissing posts that do nothing to advance this issue. -

Yes, as we can see in this thread. I am puzzled as to how to enlighten folks as to the disparity of policing etc across racial lines. It is a very serious issue. -

Well, to be clear here, it is not my event nor my cause. I am just sticking up for the heckler (who you assume to be a jerk). And of course, that is the beauty of television. You can turn the channel or you can stay tuned and listen to the violence that is affecting canadian women (sisters, mothers, aunts, cousins, daughters, etc). You get my drift. -

I am not so sure about that. Any coverage is good for missing women, regardless of the nationality. How do you think it was not helped? Because of the racism? -

Well, actually, the press did a separate interview with her the next day to cover the missing women story. And if you think the press is honest and has scruples, think again. -

This is precisely why the heckler made an issue. It is not at the forefront of news coverage and it is a very serious issue. And I am quite sure the cat charity event was not spoiled in any way. -

Your aboriginal fiancee has really nothing to do with this. But, congratulations on your engagement. Her world view is probably more of a community view. And, like I say, the press interviewed her and reported on the issue. Good on her and the press! -

What value does this add to the thread? Come on, please provide more intelligent content to this thread. -
Everyone knows Harper has taken secretive measures much further than his predecessors. "Harper’s secretive approach to politics created an environment in which his servants did things that they couldn’t explain once they were exposed." "The RCMP investigation into Wright’s payment to Duffy — with its dramatic court documents — pierced the PMO’s secrecy in a way that was difficult for the Harper government but good for our democracy. Democracy is only meaningful to the extent that we know what the government is doing." Let's hope democracy prevails in the next election.

Aboriginal women or any women in Canada for that matter, don't need charity. Women in Canada need better police protection and action when women go missing. That isn't called charity. About them? Them aboriginal women are canadian women, need I say more. It is a mystery when women go missing! Who took them, what happened, are they being held against their will? These are questions that unfortunately many police forces across Canada ignore when the victims are prostitutes, regardless of the race. We only need to look at the Pickton case in Vancouver to see what happened there. Hopefully, the lessons learned there will result in better policing. Women who end up on the streets and then get addicted to drugs, turn to prostitution etc, are there usually because they are fleeing an abusive environment. No woman decides to choose this profession and live on the streets. It is a complicated issue no doubt about it. The only issue I have with the heckler is that she singled out aboriginal women. But of course, she probably knows more than I do about this issue with regards to aboriginal woman in particular (disproportionate number, I get that). If she had said 'white women being murdered or missing' we probably would not have the outrage against this heckler. -
Boeing 777 Disappears Near Vietnam

And it's not only Boeing, it's the pilots too. They are very concerned that they could be flying the triple 7 with unknown deficiencies.
