  1. I'm not here to convince you.
  2. And of course, it's perfect timing to remove them now.
  3. Are you serious? What exactly are acceptable social norms? Maybe we should be checking in with you first? Canada is a multicultural society. Do you know what that means?
  4. If anyone doesn't see a connection between the removal of humpback whales from the list and the ongoing pipeline debates, they must have blinders on.
  5. Well, I do believe that arranged marriages last longer than marriages that we are familiar with, however, there are most likely instances where they don't divorce because of 'duty'. That's not good for women, especially if she is dependent on the man and not good for the man if he is unhappy in a dead marriage. On the other hand, do they work harder to make their marriage succeed unlike us, who drop out of a marriage without working at it. The last thing we should be doing is imposing our cultural actions on others, even if it's pre-arranged marriages and it differs from ours.
  6. You will see what you want to see.
  7. There are many young asian people who trust their parents judgements of who they would be most happy and successful at in a marriage with someone. If you were to have conversations with these young people and their parents, you may come to a different conclusion. I must admit, that at first I was against it, but after listening to these people and looking at it from their point of view, who are we to judge their decisions.
  8. Look at the other posts, do some research. You may come to a different opinion.
  9. An arranged marriage wouldn't work for me but it may work for others. I have worked with many asian people, including young people who are ok with this and indeed carry out this tradition. |So, yes it's ok imo.
  10. I disagree that it's very much related. A FN woman wanting to have a baby with a FN man does not indicate that she is separate from society. How do you see that? East Indian people do it all the time. Does that make them separate from society? It is very difficult for me to follow your logic.
  11. What exactly does this mean? I have no clue what you are talking about so how can anyone debate this response.
  12. I agree that FN should live in much more favourable environments than on same Indian Reserves that I have seen. But what does this have to do with this woman selecting a native man to marry and father her children?
  13. Here is our answer as to why the hump-back whale was removed: "The Harper government has dismantled one of the world's top aquatic and fishery libraries as part of its agenda to reduce government as well as limit the role of environmental science in policy decision-making."
  14. Yes, they are but the plant is expected to go live in 2018 at a cost of 738M. Is it worth it? Read it for yourself and come to your own conclusion.
  15. I believe I was speaking to Argus's comments about large groups of Muslims being terrorists. We have large groups of Muslims in Canada. Are they terrorists?
  16. I live in Canada, I don't live in Pakistan. When a Canadian speaks about Muslims, they need to consider canadian muslims and the impact of their remarks on fellow canadians.
  17. Not a bad analogy, just a little confusing. (to me anyway!). But, I get that her intention isn't to displace other races. She is also putting her own personal preferences aside (for a possibly wealthy and successful man), in order to preserve her cultural and yes bloodlines, as I mentioned before.
  18. Right, so you are defining security as hunting, fishing, and post secondary education. We already have free health care.
  19. I think we need to step back a second and see what this is really about. It's about a native woman who wants to have a family with a native man to preserve her cultural, and yes, aboriginal blood lines. If a white woman wants to have her children fathered by a white man, she has that choice as well. I don't think anyone is dismissing white people who want to preserve their race. This native woman wrote a column about it because it is a thought provoking article.
  20. Well, at least if I were a gold digger, I'd be going after much more!
  21. Obtaining post secondary education, hunting and trapping rights are not what a gold digger would be going after.
  22. So you are coming to the conclusion that people on the left are the only folks in support of her decision?
  23. Right, you have said disguisted a few times. I get that.
