  1. You don't even need to show up in person. You can obtain an e-file ID online and over the phone.
  2. Tim, I understand that you are a software developer for security but I certainly wouldn't leave it up to you to decide that it wouldn't be worth it. We all need to keep an open mind and see how these online trials end up.
  3. Posters throw out 10 minutes or 30 seconds to go and vote at a polling station. It clearly takes much more time and effort than that. What if you have children, you need to get a sitter. What if you have a demanding job that requires travel, overtime. It's ridiculous to throw out these short span of times to vote at a polling station.
  4. Now that the mapping of the ocean floor has begun in that area, I'm guessing the oceanographers are watching this closely.
  5. We certainly need a secure system in place before a rollout of an online voting system. That goes without saying. "You people", gotta love it.
  6. I don't know. Did you google to try and find out?
  7. I don't believe that you can't have both.
  8. It's curious that it happened right around the time the transponder went offline.
  9. And of course, young people are certainly not the only ones disengaged. I was using young people as an example of folks who do not currently vote. I'm not sure why the resistance of trying to encourage everyone to vote regardless of the method. (once of course, the security issues are addressed and I'm quite confident they will be).
  10. I don't think anyone in this thread said that online voting will solve the larger problem. Online voting is another means to accommodate more voters and there have been links to numerous articles outlining the benefits if anyone cares to read them.
  11. Does it matter who was interviewed? The suggestions are creative and worth considering.
  12. Sure it does, there is just no money exchanging hands.
  13. Apparently the co-pilot tried to get a signal with his cell phone shortly before or after the transponder went off.
  14. That's a great point! We could add something to the ballot like "should whales be held in captivity at the vancouver aquarium". But seriously, that is a good point for having online voting.
  15. Let's suppose a 20 something decides to vote online. This will engage them in the voting process and possibly, they may start to research policies, politicians etc to determine who they should vote for. I'm not sure why young people would be considered low level voters. It's insulting and doesn't give them much credit. The millenium generation are online most of the time. This is their world. They know their way around the internet and I think that online voting IMHO would engage more voters who would typically not otherwise become engaged. I realize most people are resistant to change. I see it all the time in my profession. When online voting comes to fruition, most folks will say "Shoot, why didn't we do this a long time ago"!
  16. I found this interesting: While voters are losing interest in elections or facing difficulties in exercising their right to vote, governments are trying to figure out new ways to engage them in the democratic process. ● Making the voting process efficient: ○ Increasing the speed of the vote counting process ○ Minimizing delays in the publication of election results ○ Streamlining post-election audit processes ○ Eliminating duplication of voter registration records ○ Reducing ballot printing and logistics costs Efficiency is important both for emerging countries that are eager to modernize their election processes (and to conform to democratic election standards set by OSCE, the European Union, and other international institutions) and for developed countries that are under pressure to control government expenditure.
  17. I didn't put the articles out there to discuss the issue of ID cards. They are articles of information for anyone who wishes to read them.
  18. Did you consult with some of these animals to see if 'they no longer had the need to run free'?
  19. An interesting article here discusses internet voting in a couple of European countries. It also says that trials are underway in Canada. I didn't know that. Another article here discusses a firm 'Scytl' which offers software for online voting. Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen invested $40 million in this company.
  20. Of all people, I don't believe in Shady's responses. He has no research or forthought into his answers.
  21. anyway, I'm done with this thread. carry on.
  22. For crying out loud. We are talking about online voting! Give it a break!!!
  23. I am a palm reader or whatever you want to call me. Bury your heads in the sand. I could care less.
