  1. If I were a gay student and my parents were paying for my education and I had to hide my sexual identity in order to get a law degree, the college is in fact imposing their belief system onto me by making me sign this covenant and denying me my human rights.
  2. Well, the Ontario Law Society is directing their ban towards TWU, no one else.
  3. Why would a bar even admit that they served him that amount of alcohol? Wouldn't that set them up for lawsuits (from the victims families)?
  4. The problem I have with this particular case is that the driver (who went on to kill two women) was served six double rye-and-cokes and two shots of Jagermeister before he was cut off. The server remembers how much was served. Why not cut him off earlier or call the Manager to deal with the patron and ensure that this customer was going to call a cab. I am familiar with the neighbourhood and this is a neighbourhood pub. They knew how much he drank and probably knew he was going to drive. Why did they not do more to ensure he was not going to get behind the wheel.
  5. Well, TWU is telling everyone who's rights are more important.
  6. Thanks, and btw I'm not opening myself up to criticisms of my posts (from other members, unless it is sincerely helpful and not bickering)
  7. It is actually pretty simple. Remove the covenant.
  8. I understand the rules for wanting original content, thoughts and ideas and I agree for the most part with them. However, I am now confused and wondering if I perhaps have broken the rules with regards to this. I have quoted people from articles I have found on the internet when trying to communicate my thoughts or when bringing a topic forward for discussion. If I am not responding or starting a thread properly, can you please advise. I am now second guessing my posts .
  9. One group's rights shouldn't come before another group's if it goes against human rights. And that is the essence of this battle TWU finds itself in with a a couple of provinces and perhaps NB as well. TWU couldn't really care less about the other provinces. It's the Ontario Law Society that concerns them the most and rightly so.
  10. Trudeau is a Wonk? What is a wonk? And what is a protected life?
  11. Who determines that enough is enough? You? Would you feel safe boarding a triple 7 or flying into or out of Malaysia. The investigation into the Air France flight that disappeared took 2 years. After each air crash has been investigated, safety measures have been implemented from lessons learned. Such will likely be the case if they ever find the black box in the Malaysia flight. Indeed, safety measures have already been implemented in Malaysia because of this crash.
  12. Dow Marmur, who is rabbi emeritus at Toronto's Holy Blossom Temple wrote a very good column today. He is an appointed bencher and states that he would have voted with the majority. His reasons and thoughts in summary, are: When it seeks accreditation from bodies that reflect current social mores, it must be prepared to modify its stance accordingly. The bible can be interpreted as being opposed to homosexuality, but it can also be interpreted as promoting all manifestations of love between individuals irrespective of gender and every human being should be treated equally regardless of sexual orientation.Scripture is sacred but not divine, despite the claims to the contrary, especially by those who wish to wrap their own prejudices and quest for domination in the mantle of holy writ.Biblical teachings depend on human interpretations and insights gained through the ages resulting in commandments evolving. The words may be the same but their meaning is not.if it wants its law students to be accepted by all legal jurisdictions in Canada, it must be prepared to comply with the principles of public policy as espoused by those whose approval it seeks. It’s not enough to be a “forgiving community,” as TWU claims. It identifies the elusive notion of sin and then claims seeming tolerance in not punishing sinners. Such an approach is baffling and unacceptable.Bencher Raj Anand, renowned human rights advocate, states that “to prevent a student from manifesting his or her own sexual identity is itself a violation of the Human Rights Code.” And asking students to make a false declaration, either impugns their good characters or advocates a life of repression.I couldn't have expressed my thoughts more eloquently than this.
  13. Obama had a real zinger at the correspondent's dinner tonight. "Fox will miss me when I'm gone, It will be hard to convince everyone Hillary is from Kenya".

    2. Shady

      Shady

When did Fox ever suggest that? I guess he has to blame somebody for his failed presidency.

    3. On Guard for Thee

      On Guard for Thee

Naw, I think Hillary is safe from that, Fox folks probably don't believe there are any white people from Kenya.

Yep you're right Shady! Whenever Obama sais Fox news is bad, the donations pour like rain!

  14. I don't think it matters if you agree with me or not or if you get the same out of it as I do. The point is that we both agree the suspension was extreme.
  15. Yes I was thinking the same.
  16. It does seem extreme to me, especially when Waldo contributes great value to the threads he participates in. There is a risk of a member leaving when faced with a suspension of that duration. I would be disappointed to not have Waldo's well researched contributions to this forum. I look forward to reading his posts because they are credible, interesting and I learn from them.
  17. I read an interesting article today regarding when marijuana was criminalized in Canada. It was in 1923. The U.S. followed suit 14 years later. However, the interesting part is that there was no debate in parliament over this issue, no evidence of public debate, no paper trail on why it was criminalized and no science behind the decision. A final note in the article states: "Today, when protesters demand decriminalization, the federal government may be able to come up with reasons not to do so, but it would be hard-pressed to explain why it was criminalized in the first place." A great reason to further the cause to decriminalize MJ.
  18. I don't really know. We will have to wait and see.
  19. Well, not only does Vancouver have InSite. We also have crack pipe vending machines to help stop the spread of disease among drug users. Perhaps that is the real reason Ford was in Vancouver on the pretext of a funeral.
  20. Not all provinces have voted. NB will hold a vote in late June. And it certainly isn't over in BC. BC's decisions are still being contested. "In British Columbia, lawyers have filed a lawsuit with the Supreme Court of B.C. targeting that province’s move last year to approve the university’s law school. The suit is an attempt to overturn the decision by Advanced Education Minister Amrik Virk." "Earlier this month, the Law Society of B.C. voted 20-6 in favour of accrediting the planned law school. But a petition with more than 1,300 signatures means the society’s general membership will revisit the issue, the Globe and Mail reported Friday."
  21. Borderline comments whether they are harsh are not are usually determined by the person on the receiving end so for you to say they are 'albeit not as harsh' is not correct. There are posters here who may have been subjected to harsh and derogatory comments but that doesn't mean everyone goes running to the moderator whining about how they have been offended. So if CA were to do a tally of number of reports, that could be misleading.
  22. I saw that too. I thought it was great for him to do that. Took a bit of work and time. I don't get why that would cause a suspension?
