America under President Trump
WestCoastRunner replied to betsy's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
Just as we feared. The GOP is moving forward to defund planned parenthood. I wonder if those who voted for trump realize they use the health care services provided by them as much as any other woman. America is moving backwards. I can see a big fight ahead. -
Screening for Canadian Values

I guess they don't remember how many Japanese migrants were allowed into North and South America when they wanted to flee Japan. Short memories. And there can't be many Muslims to worry about praying in the streets when they only admitted 12 in 2014. -
What prophecy is that?

Hollywood Actor Tweets The President Should Die
WestCoastRunner replied to Michael Hardner's topic in Arts and Culture
Porn stars are sluts? She makes a very good living acting and producing her movies. She also sells sex toys online, provides sex education (maybe to straight laced Christians). She sounds like a smart business woman to me. No slutty behaviour as far as I can tell. -

Betsy, you constantly throw darts at people. If you can't take it, don't dish it out yourself. -

Screening for Canadian Values
WestCoastRunner replied to dialamah's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
This thread just seems to me to feed into the mass hysteria of hatred towards immigrants and in the end, won't possibly work. Canada is made up of many cultures and are values are constantly changing and evolving over time. Do we really want to open the door to having the government dictate our personal beliefs. -
Universal guaranteed income experiment
WestCoastRunner replied to WestCoastRunner's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Homelessness is indeed complex. Having a permanent address helps to find a job. It's a good starting point to allow an individual to regain self-worth, and attain a level of pride to move forward to seek help with education, mental health issues, addiction etc. Many people are just one pay cheque away from homelessness. Rising rental rates, low vacancy rates and reductions in govt social services expose many to the threat of homelessness, couch surfing and living off relatives. -
If the mods had any sense of respect for topaz they would delete that garbage.

Universal guaranteed income experiment
WestCoastRunner replied to WestCoastRunner's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I can assure you I pay Canadian taxes and am in a higher than average tax bracket. And I can also assure you that your priorities are different from mine when it comes to social programs. Doesn't make me a non Canadian. This is your problem. You think all Canadians think like you. -

Why would you think I'm not a Canadian tax payer? -

You keep saying we should not help refugees with taxes paid by Canadians and now you are also saying we shouldn't extend help to fellow Canadians to get them off the streets into a place of their own to start a new life. Perhaps you are the one who lacks Canadian values. -
Universal guaranteed income experiment
WestCoastRunner replied to WestCoastRunner's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Well, there seems to be some underlying purpose to experiment with this proposal in Canada as well as other countries. I'm willing to take a wait and see approach. I believe that Italy has actually extended it to include additional families. Not sure why they did that. Ww are living in a different economic world now and we can't toss those less fortunate to the curb. -

I understand the harshness when reality sets in. I don't walk around with rose tinted glasses. I'm just bringing up this experiment in a thread because I think it could be an important one. The experiment, not the thread -

I'm saying all proposals should be looked at. I certainly don't have an answer to the problem but clearly every city and town in this country has huge problems with homelessness etc. -

Universal guaranteed income experiment

But not everyone has the good luck to find a well paying job through no fault of their own whether it's due to intelligence, foster children not able to start out with the solid foundations lije other children. It's very complex and as a country we should be able to look out for each other. -

I think every proposal should be looked at. The homeless population is increasing and job loss is occurring because of automation and globalization. Govts can't seem to build low income housing fast enough so it's a very real and pressing issue. Are we as a country supposed to turn our backs on the less fortunate or experiment and come up with real solutions.
