That is your opinion but I am telling you that when this word is brought up in the sincerest forms of dialogue it's not poison. You are choosing to label it as poison.

The problem is that no one wants to censored by the words they choose. I choose my words carefully and I only choose them to encourage discussion. Racist is a valid word that should be cast out into the sunshine for all to discuss and debate. It shouldn't be a bad word that is banned to the hinterland. It is a common word spoken widely and shouldn't be disbarred.

I don't think it's cheap shorthand and many other people don't as well. You are trying to tell me what words I can and cannot use in a conversation.

Not true. If I used the word I would be challenging that person and asking for further dialogue. I'm not choosing to poison the conversation. You are using the label poison to define my argument.

If someone on this forum is called a racist why not address the accusation and delve into it deeper instead of whining to the mods that they can't handle it. It's just a word and it can evolve into a constructive conversation.

I am not speaking specifically to this forum. I am speaking in general terms. If I were having a conversation with someone at the pub or wherever and I thought they were being a racist or a bigot about a certain issue I would bring it up and we would discuss. Being called a racist or a bigot is no worse then being called a radical feminist or a man hater except in those instances it's ok. For some reason being called a racist is taboo.

It's actually harder to define something succinct but it also sugar coats the issue.

I was wondering if someone thinks being called a racist is worse than being called a bigot. A thick skinned person probably wouldn't care what they are called as long as the accuser can back up their accusations.

Calling someone a bigot is also an insult but warnings/suspensions are not given out for those instances I don't believe. Why is racist such a bad word?
