  1. He can't because there is none. Certainly there are bi-sexual individuals and other folks experimenting and discovering their sexuality who decide to choose heterosexuality without the need for this quack conversion therapy.
  2. I am no Harper fan but do you really believe that 'almost all' independent smart people think Harper is a race-baiting scum. You spend a lot of time and energy attacking his supporters. Why not just focus on the issues.
  3. Have you ever seen a male member of any society wear a Niqab?
  4. This woman will more than likely demand that her daughters wear the Niqab to school, and subject them to ridicule and oppression. The Niqab is an oppressive tool. Sometimes it's not just the father oppressing the female members of the family. Sometimes it is the mother too.
  5. Agree. I'm certainly not from a bigoted base nor am I a supporter of Harper. Does that make me an ignorant citizen playing into politics and their fears. Not likely. I'm against the symbolism that the niqab represents. The confederate flag was rejected because of its symbolism. The niqab is no different.
  6. [quote name="dialamah" post="1102254" timestamp= What a maroon. . I think you mean moron, not maroon. Sorry. I'm a freelance writer.
  7. I don't understand your point here. Can you provide your opinion?
  8. I don't really feel like watching the video. Can you encapsulate it?
  9. You told me they support choice. Which is it?
  10. My point was addressing bd's post.
  11. Yea you did say that.
  12. They support polygamy. They reject the LGBT community. They reject divorce, abortion. How is that supporting choice?
  13. That's not true. Many women who voluntarily wear the niqab are very conservative. I can't post a link here to a study because of my iPhone but I will later. Don't let their university education fool you into thinking they are accepting of women's rights in Canada.
  14. Of course not. I'm just pointing out your illogical thinking that these women are accepting of Canadian values. These women who support the niqab could be just as oppressive towards their daughters. Let's not pretend what the niqab represents.
  15. There is a fine line between discouraging new members from trolls/spam. I get these new members are mostly here because of the election but who knows who will stick around and really who cares. If they are providing topics for honest discussion then that's ok. I can see they don't post on other topics but neither do I nor many other members. So what.
  16. This is true.
  17. Women that choose to wear the niqab are probably the most conservative and do not accept all the values of Canadian society. They probably reject gay anything, divorce, dating, and accept polygamy, and other restrictions that are imposed on women)
  18. For women who are forced to wear a niqab, this decision has taken away her chance to not wear it in public. It only plays into the hands of the oppressor and does nothing to help her.
  19. In Canada, misrepresentation would include allowing the Niqab at citizenship ceremonies.
  20. An interview by Bill Maher with Ayaan Hirsi Ali: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FLJOenmfR2g Ayaan is a controversial human rights advocate: "Hirsi Ali is the founder and president of the AHA Foundation, a non-profit humanitarian organisation to protect women and girls in the U.S. against political Islam and harmful tribal customs that violate U.S. law and international conventions. Through the AHA Foundation, Hirsi Ali campaigns against the denial of education for girls, female genital mutilation, forced marriage, honour violence and killings, and suppression of information about the crimes through the misuse and misinterpretation of rights to freedom of religion and free speech in the U.S. and the West."
  21. That's not true when you look at the facts on a state-by-state basis and many reports indicate that gun deaths are on track to overtake automobile deaths this year. "guns remain the only consumer product not regulated at the federal level for health and safety, in keeping with the wishes of the gun industry and compliant lawmakers. “Teddy bears get tested to make sure they can withstand use and abuse by kids, but guns don’t get tested to make sure they don’t go off when accidentally dropped,” notes Kristen Rand of the Violence Policy Center." http://takingnote.blogs.nytimes.com/2014/07/16/gun-deaths-versus-car-deaths/?_r=0
  22. There are approximately 100 women a year who attend this ceremony that wear the Niqab. This ruling sends a wrong message to these women. How many of these 100 women wear the niqab voluntarily. We don't know but I would guess that most of them don't. Now the government has announced to them that it's ok to wear the Niqab even though this is a very strong symbolism of female suppression. The very opportunity where they could have gone without wearing it, in defiance of their husbands, Canada has just taken it away. Canada should be doing everything they can to discourage the Niqab and what it represents. It's a powerful symbolism for oppression of women.
  23. and what part of the gun laws do you not want to improve upon?
  24. I see you treat this as a serious matter.
