  1. I don't get why there is no response to these requests from BC_Chick and I regarding our iPhones? It's annoying not being able to go 'previous'. If there is no solution at least reply saying so.It just feels like we are being ignored when this is supposed to be the 'support' thread. Should we just stop submitting technical support issues? It seems they are just going to the black hole.
  2. This is part of the problem. We should be treating them as equal crimes and not differentiating them. I have spoken with female East Indian leaders in Vancouver and they agree that this should be treated as a common female domestic violence issue. It's a male/female issue not a cultural issue and the better that Canadian society addresses it, the better off everyone will be.
  3. You seem to be hell bent on separating honour killing from domestic killing as if North American domestic killing gets a pass.
  4. Motive may play a part in the charges and sentencing but shouldn't be held separate from honour killing and domestic violence.
  5. It's domestic violence. Period!!!! It's very sad that we are arguing whether this is honour killing vs domestic violence. The sad fact is that women are being murdered by men in domestic violence.
  6. I really don't understand your logic.
  7. Honour killing is no different than domestic violence resulting in death. What part of that don't you understand?
  8. I don't agree that this was entirely an ABC election as MG suggests. There was a dramatic increase in first time young voters who voted for Justin regardless of Harper. Female voters just got tired of harpers anti female policies and environmentalists, scientists as well had very good reason to vote liberal given Trudeau's stand on these issues.
  9. Honour killing is no different than domestic violence resulting in death and will be treated the same in the courts.
  10. Closer to home: Re-opening of the Kitsilano Coast Gusrd Base Inquiry into missing and murdered women Increase in our coastal marine protected areas Address the decline of sockeye salmon Address the increase in oil tankers
  11. I took a poll of my kids and partners votes. They are in their 20's and 30's. Not one of them voted conservative and they all did their own research. It was either green, ndp or liberal. ABC. This may be a good representation of the young population in bc. As well, this is the first time some of them have voted.
  12. It's not only the dirty campaigns, but also the warnings from Election Canada that have gone out to staffers to watch for dirty voter suppression. The same tactics that are used south of our border will inevitably find their way to Canada.
  13. Trump and Bush are arguing about whether Bush is responsible for the9/11 attack. What ridiculous statements coming from Trump, however, he seems to be on track to get the nomination.
  14. I guess all those voting vaginas have been right all along.
  15. I lived in Victoria for a few years as well. Undoubtedly, one of the best places I have lived in Canada. I ended up moving back to the mainland because it was just too much effort getting back and forth to the mainland to visit family both financially and time. Victoria has much less rain then Vancouver and plenty more sunshine but far less to do as well.
  16. If you use google chrome you should be able to see the status updates. If I use the regular google, I can't see them. Another issue I found with the latest iOS update is that when I click the 'previous' button, it takes me back to the first post for that thread and I can't move forward. If I click on the topic initially, I can view the last page so what is happening is that I can only view the latest posts for any topic when I view them on my iphone.
  17. This decision sets a dangerous precedent that any custom that is introduced into Canada and is based on religious practices should be protected. This would include polygamy, child marriage, fgm and so on. First of all, the Niqab is not mandated by the religion. It is a custom that has been turned into a religious mandate by certain sects and individuals. "This ruling of the Indian Supreme Court is instructive. India shares with Canada the system of government and democratic traditions handed down from Britain. India is also the world’s third-largest Muslim country after Indonesia and Pakistan. In ruling that bigamy and polygamy are in violation of India’s laws, the courts have defended the rights of women, especially Muslim women, in terms of equality rights, and against Muslim Shariah-based laws that discriminate against them in favour of men." "Canadian courts would be well advised to make a similar and appropriate distinction between religious beliefs and customary practices, and whether any or all customs should be protected under the Charter provision of religious freedom." http://news.nationalpost.com/full-comment/salim-mansur-defending-the-niqab-ban
  18. If no one has ever heard of Tomnod, it's a great mapping app, that I first heard of when MH370 went down. Tomnod provides online map interfaces to engage people to view and tag different items depending on the project. Closer to home, Tomnod was used to help locate a missing hiker, Tom Billings, who went missing in North Vancouver. He has yet to be found. Tomnod's latest project is to help free child slaves in Ghana. "The fishing industry on Lake Volta is a site of systemic modern slavery. Traffickers prey upon vulnerable families and tell parents that their children will get to attend school in exchange for a few hours of work. Instead they are sold into a life of misery and suffering; forced to work 19-hour days in deplorable conditions, likely never to see their real parents again. " "Tomnod has teamed up with the Global Fund to End Slavery to track the location and number of boats used for fishing around Lake Volta, providing for the first time a reliable estimate of the extent of slavery in the region."
  19. I spent many many years in Ontario. Couldn't stand the summer humidity, nor the cold winters. I live on the west coast now, would never go back east. The climate here is perfect, the views are outstanding and plenty to do outdoors and indoors. If you can survive condo living, it's the perfect place in Canada (and we have the Canucks!)
  20. I'm still with you on this issue!
  21. What a great 5th game and a very talented team. They play extremely well under pressure and it's amazing they pulled out 3 wins in a row to move on. The bars in Vancouver were full of Jay fans, even all the way out here on the west coast.
  22. You are taking a great leap and choosing which posters are ashamed to be associated with their posts. How can you possibly single out posters under your strict guidelines?
  23. [quote name="bcsapper" post="1103959" timestamp=" With the Niqab, it's the same to me as polygamy. There might be a woman out there who actually does want to marry some lecherous old git in Bountiful or Utah, but I bet she's in a small minority. There will be others who do it because they genuinely believe a supernatural being is going to reward them if they do. Or maybe punish them if they don't. It doesn't matter. People should be allowed to do stupid things if they want to. That's what choice is about. That all changes when other humans try and force them, but good luck getting anyone to admit to that. To me this is about falling backwards in women's rights in Canada.
