Im sure you are right. People are indeed wearing them, yet the virus prevails. I suspect the truth of the matter is that people trust the masks and it gives them a false sense of security. Absolutely false, for any paper or cloth masks. Likewise physical distancing does not work in the store lineups, because when you stand on the X right in the same location where the previous person was, you are breathing in their air. It now matters how long you wait before advancing, how long they were standing there before you, and ventilation. Therefor be advised. If you can smell her perfume etc, that is it. Also, avoid canoeing at this time. We dont want to lose you!2 points

??? I don't think you understand the issue. They did a recount but they didn't check for irregularities in the ballots that would have disqualified them. The governor says they could still do that under the law. Has nothing to do with different definitions of democracy.1 point

What I said was the million maga march as peaceful protest was a display of populism. What we see in Portland and other areas of anarcho-Marxist sparked riot are examples of mob rule. If you're asking us not to notice that then one more time you're wanting us to ignore the obvious. As to minority rights, again I'm going to ask you to define your terms. Do you mean like do I think guys who want to believe they're woman should have the right to say compete in female weight lifting tournaments? That sort of thing. If so the answer is "not really." I'm not sure what that has to do with democracy, which is what we were discussing. For America, I do believe in Constitutional rights and I think they should cover minorities pretty well when applied correctly.1 point

No, it's not. Peaceful protest such as we saw at the million MAGA march in Washington last week can be the public display of Populism. A display of "Mob Rule" would be what we're seeing in places like Portland. And it's spreading via the usual suspects.1 point

So you will understand where the main problem is, and what negligence is. You have been taken for a walk down the garden path, you want to believe. I do not. What I said in March.1 point

He's a conservative Republican, unlike you or Trump. Neither of you is conservative. You're both just uneducated and given to ridiculous conspiracies. You have no meaning in your life so you've seized on Trumpism. Better to have found something constructive.1 point

The Maritimes had a shaky start with our Syrian/ Asian immigrants/ refugees, and there was problems on all sides, problems with the language, some refusing, and most of the teachers were women which created another problem that may have reached the main stream media. We rarely have immigrants here, until a few years ago, so to counter problems that big cities have already solved was a huge learning curve for both sides here...yes there was problems on both sides with racism and there still is a few hardcore cases on both sides. Religion was one , finding them a space to get set up was one, they did not have the funding for a mosque, so they converted some large homes...which caused parking problems which increase tensions. . like i said lots of red necks... Small issues... i don't think there are here forever, once they get a chance they'll leave. lack of jobs and opportunities is one of the biggest drivers, red necks and lack of government funding for business etc are another. I don't have an issue with them stealing jobs, a lot of people here take advantage of the system, meaning poggy, or welfare, to lazy to get off their asses and work, and it's generational, dad was on welfare , kids are on welfare, their kids will be on welfare. their not lowering pay that i know off, average income is about 36,000 a year .... are they seen as positive by the majority, I'd say its neutral, we have an over abundance of rednecks here that do not like change so that will be with us for years to come... Maritimes is a hard place to thrive, let alone when your an outsider, you won't find to many million dollars homes here, i think you could buy NB for a million... Most of the people are good , honest, hard working, but a lot of them struggle to make ends meet All that being said many people do not agree with our current immigration policies, me included. Argus does not paint it very favorable picture which is some what how i see it... I still think there is other alteratives out there, but it is going to take some major investment.1 point

i don't believe gay people are sinners, I think whats happens in your bedroom should stay there, unless it is abuse... i and i don't have a problem with everyone having basic human rights, that being said, I'm not putting on a skirt and dancing in the streets with them either. And i don't think we need special laws for them either, everyone is already covered by existing laws.1 point

So you are okay with people who cheered the 911 attack, or other attacks, who were, one way or another effected by West's attack on their country and people. Obviously that is ridiculous. I have no time for idiots who whine about and get so angry about cartoons. Then you have some fxckhead who are willing to kill someone because of it... damn... Please fxck off. People are easily insulted and are looking for excuses to feel insulted. I'm going to stop talking about this topic. We're derailing the subject. Sort of.1 point

Well, Oops, let me explain like you are five: Imagine a bathtub with the drain left open, and the tap running. If the tap is running faster than the drain, eventually the bathtub will fill up and then overflow. Only by turning the tap down can we prevent the tub from filling and overflowing. Right now, our hospitals are like that bathtub, the increasing infections are the tap and the people who recover or die are the drain. Dr. Henry is trying to slow that "tap" of increasing infections down so that the "tub" of our hospital beds do not become full or overflowing. Most people in BC understand and support that goal. Maybe you could too. I know that I have a youthful appearance, but 5 years old, you are too kind. There are currently 217 people hospitalized in B.C. for covid. There are 161 hospitals in the province so if you believe that this overwhelming our system you are sadly mistaken. The system was operating at capacity before the shut down, with months long waiting lists for cancer treatments, heart surgeries and other lifesaving procedures, so Queen Henry (the 8th?) closed operating rooms and hospital beds. This resulted in deaths that could have been prevented, maybe that is what is filling your bathtub. Oh by the way the lockdowns are not to prevent infections, just to spread them over a longer time. Apparently 8 months is not long enough. How many people do you suppose will die when the government needs to close hospital beds when the next budget comes down, or do you believe that we can provide the same level of service while closing down our businesses putting people out of work and generally crippling all our revenue sources while throwing hundreds of billions of dollars turning our province into a police state. Looks like they are plugging the drain and adding more water at the same time. I hope you have a mop, because your floor will be getting wet. By the way Horgan and Trudeau aren't giving away their money, they are giving away our money. There also has been a drastic rise in drug overdose deaths, because of the government closing our borders and a resulting compromise in safety of the drug supply. Maybe you had better get an industrial pump, because I suspect you are in for a real flood. The loneliness of our seniors caused by the lockdowns is causing serious deterioration in their heath from dementia, cancer and heart disease. Bet that one hurts. We preschoolers are better at lateral thinking than our elders so I hope that you aren't struggling too much with all of this.1 point

I don't need to be told what I already know. So let's ask some intelligent questions, like why there is such a low capacity for spare beds in our health care system? Waiting for disaster, totally unprepared. Other models demonstrate how to deal with it, regardless of the current health system debacle. You build a goddamn compound like a hospital, and move all the sick and eldery in there. You isolate the people who are vulnerable. So in other words, you don't shut the whole country down, but you use that money, millions and billions, to make these facilities. As well as other, vital public health resources. Not sit on your hands like our ... "leaders", and roll your eyes and say "Oh well. What's a person to do???" No, that attitude is for dunderheads.1 point

Queenmandy85 asked Just out of curiosity, what do you consider to be fun? Fun is hanging with your friends, going to football and hockey games. Fun is seeing your children’s graduation, enjoying weddings and funerals with your family and friends, picnics, barbecues dinners with friends. Fun is being free to go where you want and see who you want to. Fun is not living in a place where Queen Henry the 8th has people watching and waiting to fine or incarcerate you if you socialize against her wishes. Not everyone's idea of fun is paddling off into the wilderness all by yourself. If you do that be careful not to tip, and get hypothermia, we would really hate to lose you. Hopefully one day you will make some friends, and not need someone to explain what fun is1 point

I wonder. Would the same apply to those who lived under Nazi rule when they hear anyone on the right labelled as such?1 point

Not you, evidently. There is nothing in Capitalism which says it needs cheap labour to work. The cost of labour is a function of its scarcity. If there aren't enough people to drive taxis or skin fishes then employers have to raise the rates to attract enough. That's how Capitalism works. What employers in Canada do is short-circuit this function of capitalism by importing huge masses of foreign labour who will work cheaply and can be bullied more easily. This allows them to keep pay rates low. Tell me, have you ever taken even a single economics course?1 point

Trump would have caused a disappointment for the lefties if he had fairly admitted defeat and congratulated the winner. Instead by his petulant behavior he is acting on the left's wet dream. The only thing which is missing in making the left's dream come true is that on Jan 20 Trump barricades himself in the White House and he will have to be dragged out by force.1 point

Depends how far back you want to go. Ook threw the first rock... Things were always bad. But things were stable sometimes for centuries. Why that is, is debatable. Watched a good show about WW1 the other day, and it made me think of how it went wrong. Europe, the Habsburgs, the Tsar. The Archduke and his wife. Treachery and savagery of the Bolsheviks, and of Rasputin. Yes, its all a rich tapestry...1 point
