Leafless Posted July 30, 2007 Report Posted July 30, 2007 While working on a lengthly reply, I have noticed over the past week or so, that when ready to post my reply, the board notifies me I am not logged in and am prompted to log in and save my post. The problem is the post that is supposed to be saved is incorrect and contains only a few incorrect sentences. Even after attempting to save these incorrect sentences and re-logging in, all the previous post is lost. So would someone please inform me that when one is working on a reply, is there a time limit before being cut off and why is the 'post saved function' so screwed up? Quote

What browser are you using?? Security settings on your PC? Is it only MLW you have this issue with or have you at least tried a few other forums to see if you can post?? From what I see,,,,, there is no way to save anything before actually logging in. It should prompt you to log in even BEFORE you post, for me it always drags me to log in after I click the reply. If this is not happening on your PC, try posting from another computer... if you have the same issues, then there is a problem. If you do not have an issue with the other PC, then you need to scan that PC for viruses, spyware, ect, do some windows updates, ect ect.. Quote
sharkman Posted July 31, 2007 Report Posted July 31, 2007 I think leafless means that he does indeed log in, and find a thread he wants to post in. In the past he's had no problem, but now if he takes more than a certain amount of time, he gets logged out. Or am I missing something leafless. Quote

Everything you said is correct and I would like to emphasis that when I go to post my reply, after 20, 30 min., the board notifies me by an on screen dialogue box that I am disconnected (from the site) not the net. Another small dialogue post ask me if I choose to save my post but includes in that dialogue box incorrect data not even in my post. Like I said previously when I tick off 'yes I would like to save my post' and re-log in, all is lost regardless. BC brought up the cookies and I am set to 'block all cookies' which I will change to allow secession cookies and see if that helps. My browser is IE6.0. Normally, there is no problem, when posting quicker replies. Quote
gc1765 Posted July 31, 2007 Report Posted July 31, 2007 A temporary solution might be that before you go to post a long reply, highlight your post and right-click on copy. Even if you get logged out, you should be able to paste your reply again. You could also copy and paste it into another program such as Word. Quote Almost three thousand people died needlessly and tragically at the World Trade Center on September 11; ten thousand Africans die needlessly and tragically every single day-and have died every single day since September 11-of AIDS, TB, and malaria. We need to keep September 11 in perspective, especially because the ten thousand daily deaths are preventable. - Jeffrey Sachs (from his book "The End of Poverty")

Thanks, but I also thought of that and is a solution but just another source of frustration and time. Anyways, I was just wondering if anyone else experienced the same sort of problem. Quote
GostHacked Posted August 1, 2007 Report Posted August 1, 2007 Easiest solution, Leafless is to do the reply in notepad or word, then paste it into the reply. It would save frustration for the time being. Are you behind a router? Firewall? Wireless? Just throwin things out there. Quote

I suppose that would be the easiest solution. gc1765 suggested a similar suggestion. It is only recently this has happened with longer type replies and have not been bothered by what I described, with shorter type post. This has not happened to often, so I am not that concerned about it. Any ways if it happens again, I will simply go off-line, type it up on Word, log in and paste it into the reply. Thanks Quote
capricorn Posted August 2, 2007 Report Posted August 2, 2007 It is terribly frustrating to prepare a lengthy, thoughtful post and have it disappear suddenly into oblivion. This happened to me on another forum a few weeks ago. Now, whenever I take time to think while preparing and typing my posts, I use word and copy and paste.
