GostHacked
3 year bump ! Never read that thread before. Quite interesting. Some of those posters no longer participate on this forum at all. It's kind of a shame, but it is what it is. I've participated in this forum for about 5 years now (damn 5 years already!?!?!?) and if this place continues to be operated the way Greg and Co. have administered the site, I'll be here for another 5 years. Borg
Maybe it's me. Or maybe it's Canadian politics now. But I liked this place before. Now I don't. True, the Internet is a new medium and it takes flexibility to deal with it. So too an Internet forum. This forum is an experiment with several years under its belt. It's a vanguard. Lethbridge University deserves applause for trying this experiment. Has any other in Canada created a website with such a forum? So, now what with this experiment? It seems to me that before, maybe when it was new, this forum had forceful but thought-provoking posters here: Craig Read and Hugo, for example. Now, it doesn't. Instead, I fear that this forum has become increasingly a venue for cranks and quacks. In a country of 30 million, there are more than several idiot-savants to cause havoc. At any large university, you'll find the Lyndon Larouche stand. A few active posters can quickly change an Internet forum. IOW, in policing a forum, it is one problem to keep at bay the trolls, spam artists and simply psychotic. It's another problem to deal with conspiracy whackos. [Curiously, my French forum doesn't suffer from any of these problems. Maybe it's a question of language or maybe it's a question of having more moderators. Dunno.] I don't want to lose the chance for something new, different. Yet I don't want to waste my time on nonsense. And I don't want to participate in a forum where I have to "Ignore" frequent posters. Greg, and others, whither MLF? Just another drive by script here: Fact is Canada is a pretty decent country overall - but it has started to decay. No one is guilty. No one is responsible. And the country must pay for every special interest group. Quite frankly this forum is going the way of the country. We need a polarization for the country - and I have no idea what it might be. Until then I despise the average Canucklehead who complains and never votes. Who never stands for anything unless he personally benefits. Who believes all are equal while many do not pay their way and expect others to do it for them. Who does not realize the governments from local to federal cannot give without taking from someone first. And so on. Such is life. Do not like it - then leave. Many are. Many have. Many will. I serve for me (I will honour my oath as I must until I retire) and the man on my left and the woman on my right and not the government or average Canuck any more. Am I part of the problem - quite likely - until something changes and I am waiting for that - I no longer care about the rest. Oleg Bach
I personally consider anything from the Bush regime to be a 'conspiracy theory' at best, so shall we dedicate a forum to all the bush induced theories, that would be fun! or how about one for the 'rapture believers' that is quit a theory? how about one for the 'Muslim world take over' theory? How about creating a thread that mentions the fact Obama is a white socialist who works for international buisness people and second rate aristocrats - who deploy diplomats and bureaucrats who act like rats? Oleg Bach
Never forget that - all views, opinions and rants are welcome - let the student sort it out - all information and attitudes should be displayed freely.
Yesterday
I'll tip my hat to that. I do love to ask questions, not always smart ones. The foundation of a good question is made up of many layers of stupid questions.

Hi, ok I have to ask you too, why do you call Harper a socialist? The same with Trudeau. I am just trying to figure out what a socialist is and what actions these labeled people took to earn the label. This is all new to me. Yesterday
If the rest of the world saw this forum, I think they'd disagree with all of those. Sadly so I would have to agree with you.
Yesterday
I think it's more accurate to say that the rest of the world sees Canada as being inconsequential. I definitely don't agree with this...what about the G7 and the Dollar Refunding Program? Far from inconsequential quite influential.

Some times a long rant can be useful also - within that raving there might be a dozen points - 11 of them maybe nonsence...but if one even by accident hits the mark - then it is all useful..who knows - even crazy people come up with the odd gem on occassion - the wise person will pick up that jewel. Yup I agree, the process of dialog (ranting counts) in all forms from its simplest beginning to it's most complicated thousandth layer could be one of the most valuable tools period. As well as the equally sought after ability to listen. Edited June 12, 2010 by Yesterday

Greg did interview Jack Layton a few years ago using questions submitted by posters here but I suspect no one in active politics has time to waste flipping through our verbiage. However, I suspect that people from all parties visit forums like this on a regular basis as an informal way of gauging public opinion. (they'd be foolish not to.) We've also seen this message board (and others like it, I'm sure) used by party supporters as a means of getting a party viewpoint out. -k
Michael Hardner
It seems so. As such, I would hope that some opposition parties can see the value of building some better policies, based on good information and performance statistics; policies that aren't aimed howitzer-style at television viewers, but rather at engaged and informed voters such as are found here.
