Fifth Estate on TONIGHT 9pm CBC! They actually showed my neighbourhood in the beginning (i have satellite and got a glimpse of the beginning.. now I'm watching Little Mosque.. it's about pro-women rights and getting very preachy. I feel this epeside will definately offend some Muslims. The teenage daughter is taking off her clothes in the bedroom and they showed her butt and stuff. They are advocating changing mosque rules. I'm glad this is happening and i'm sure there's going to be objections..)

I suggest everyone watch so they can see what's going on in Canada.

hey mikedavid, one really cannot make commentary on your thread until you clear up a significant outstanding issue you left on another thread. This is regardiong your posting that Canadian Military Afghanistan widows get 750k in an 1 time payout plus pensions.

This type of unlinked unsupported assertation, if false, could be grevious to wthese widows and their children.

Please do clear this up.

I'd say the news magazine show of the year in Canada.

Of course there is a lot of one sided reasoning and it's naturally biased towards forgiveness of Muslims, but nonetheless it's a really good piece. You can tell though that they are using this story in a way for the public to 'forgive' them.

I'll say it is time consuming. I certainly wasn't aware of any $750,000 and searched the DND sites, government sites, Benefit Sites, News articles, Internet Searches, and have even asked some buddies of mine who know nothing about this LUMP SUM for their benefactors.

As the number of servicemen and women killed in the war on terror continues, it is imperative that we recognize the need to provide not only emotional support to their families, but much-needed financial assistance during this troubling time.

By increasing the current $12,000 military death gratuity payment to $100,000, your legislation will stand by the Federal government's promise to take care of those left behind when a servicemember dies in the line of duty. We also applaud the bill's proposal that would increase the Servicemembers Group Life Insurance (SGLI) maximum benefit from $250,000 to $400,000. VFW resolution 642, passed at our National Convention in August, calls for legislation to improve the SGLI benefit; an increase we believe is long overdue.

Once again, thank you for introducing legislation that will help ensure that those families that have lost a loved one in the name of freedom receive the support and financial assistance that truly demonstrates our appreciation for those who sacrificed all.

In Canada, the sum would be significantly smaller:

This benefit is provides to the spouse or estate of reservists who die while on Class "A" or "B" service, and is an amount equal to 20 months of Regular Force pay at the applicable rank at the basic level. This benefit is not payable if you are covered under the SDB plan. This benefit is taxable except for the first $10,000.

Hey, thanks for the heads up on this documentary mikedavid, it actually was a great show. very informative and shows, how whacked those are who would try and depict Islam and Muslims as all being radical, and terrorists. In fact, it was a moderate Muslim who brought about all the information gathering CSIS acheived on the young radicals in Toronto.

I would recommend that those interested catch it on the CBC website, and maybe Youtube will have it, if you missed it.

Thanks for the Information. I handcuffed my searching by putting in $750000 because someone posted that was the figure. But some buddies thought that 3/4s of a million dollars would be acceptable for risk.

We just claim that there is an element within the community that does hold radical views. Even this claim is too much for some to believe, judging from the number of people who insist that the Toronto arrests were an elaborate hoax or a frame-up job.

In fact, it was a moderate Muslim who brought about all the information gathering CSIS acheived on the young radicals in Toronto.

This aspect of the investigation was well documented at the time. It's somewhat encouraging.

I saw the report 8 days ago on satelitte while I was searching for different channels to watch the first episode of LMoTP. I came across a news report on CTV or CBC and they were showcasing a widow with a young child in Cornwall Ontario. They listed on the screen her benefits and they listed a lump sum of $750,000. I don't know if othher insurance or whatever was involved. I then mentioned to my fiance 'wow you see? they don't volunteer for nothing and I guess everything has it's price'. Then my fiance noticed they the lady owned a home and speculated that maybe she bought it with all the money she recieved. They then said that the widow got his pention and monthly payments of what he would have recieved and such. They had the listing on the screen.

Actually that guy and his familiy are well known in the Muslim community here. His parents own business and are supposedly fairly well off. They are activists and was pro Shariah Law in Ontario. They disrupted a womens protest in downtown Toronto. Supposedly he got hundreds of thousands of dollars to spy on these guys. He's actually known to be an active Islamist (which is diffrent than a radical Islamist).

When did I say that? I have muslim friends and have dated a muslim girl. I certainly don't think their all radicals.

However as an immigartion policy, we are importing a threat to our country and it's only a matter of time before something happens.

Why would the CBC show that?

They have a bias and they are using our tax dollars to defend it.

Presenting both sides of the issue doesn't make sense on their limited budget. They *only* get a billion dollars a year in subsidies.
