M.Dancer Posted October 20, 2006 Report Posted October 20, 2006 The first and most important is respect. Never let anyone hear you say a disrespectful thing about an ex girlfriend (if they try and murder you, drive your car through a wall or stalk you in public, you have an out) lest someone who's interested in you have second thoughts. The difference I am told from one who knows, between a gentleman and a cheap one night stander: A gentleman always sends a card on you birthday....... OTTAWA — Opposition Liberals have demanded an apology from Foreign Affairs Minister Peter MacKay for apparently referring to his former romantic partner, Liberal MP Belinda Stronach, as a dog during a nasty Question Period in the House of Commons yesterday. Better a potential new lover hear that you will always have fond memories of your time together and wish her luck in the future.......because your next lover will not want someone who calls their ex a dog....... MightyAC Posted October 20, 2006 Report Posted October 20, 2006 That's great advice... Ok... Shower, shave, flowers, complement outfit, dinner, keep conversation focus on your date, drinks and don't publicly humiliate one's self and former girlfriends... wow that's a lot to remember. His stupid remark may hurt him with the ladies but at least it took some of the heat off of Rona, Steve-O and that brutal bill...maybe he's just taking one for the team. Quote

My young nephew (who's now 28) askedme years ago what were the secrets..... betsy Posted October 20, 2006 Report Posted October 20, 2006 If it's true, it does seem rather juvenile of him. Whatver happened between them should remain just between them. Quote
watching&waiting Posted October 20, 2006 Report Posted October 20, 2006 The old dog comment was actually made byt he liberal taunting him, and Mackays answer was said that they should ask her motioning to Stroachs empty chair, saying you have her now. I will not say it was a good thing to do, but I would have to give him a pass on it as he really has been a gentlemen about it all up till now. If he persisted then I would have to come down on him for that. Quote

Figleaf Posted October 20, 2006 Report Posted October 20, 2006 ... I will not say it was a good thing to do, but I would have to give him a pass on it as he really has been a gentlemen about it all up till now. ... He was a jerk about it back then. The tories drove poor Belinda out of caucus, then Mackay dumped her, then --boohoohoo-- he acted like the injured party! Sleazy. Quote

I will not say it was a good thing to do, but I would have to give him a pass on it as he really has been a gentlemen about it all up till now. If he persisted then I would have to come down on him for that. When the Liberal mentioned his dog they were not referring to Stronach. Mackay did that. He made the choice to call her a dog, and now he makes the incredibly stupid choice to deny it. A man who cannot handle the end of a relationship without this kind of nastiness is not fit for office. Quote Conservative Party of Canada taking image advice from US Republican pollster: http://allpoliticsnow.com
watching&waiting Posted October 20, 2006 Report Posted October 20, 2006 The same can be said for many of the things that go on here. But we learn to try and do better. The fact that the word dog was not uttered from Mackay's mouth, does on the surface say some things. It is only when implied around the context is it made clearer. The liberal who used this to taunt Mackay, is he to be without shame? It would be best for all if they just walked away, but that is unlikely as those involved want to play politics with the issue. Shame on both sides for that. Quote
Riverwind Posted October 20, 2006 Report Posted October 20, 2006 A man who cannot handle the end of a relationship without this kind of nastiness is not fit for office. That is a silly thing to say. It is no better than saying a man who does not hounour his marriage vows (i.e. cheats) is not fit for office. Quote To fly a plane, you need both a left wing and a right wing.
M.Dancer Posted October 20, 2006 Author Report Posted October 20, 2006 The liberal who used this to taunt Mackay, is he to be without shame? The debate was sparked on Thursday when Toronto-area Liberal Mark Holland asked Mr. MacKay about the impact of pollution on humans and animals: “What about your dog?” What exactly should Holland be ashamed about? He's not the foisting the unclean air act on us.... Quote RIGHT of SOME, LEFT of OTHERS If it is a choice between them and us, I choose us
Leafless Posted October 20, 2006 Report Posted October 20, 2006 Maybe she is a dog! A lap dog. Especially to the Liberals. Quote
watching&waiting Posted October 20, 2006 Report Posted October 20, 2006 The Unclean Air Act is it. Well you tell me just how clean was the Kyoto act. Did it clean any air? Did it ever meet a target? Did it ever even start to make one cubic foot of air cleaner?. Now this clean air act has targets that are not only reachable but they are very much inline with the actual cause and effect issues on global warming. There is absolutely no rush to make things happen now because the models do not even give rise to dangers until tha later part of this century. So a 43 year plan has 2.5 times more speedier then needed, and it is within the abilities of technology today and the economies to be able to do it. Yes I would have liked to see more addressed to the pollution of todays environment, but since those issues are much more localized, it can be further worked on with the federal and oprovincial governments on an as needed basis. So you want to condemn a plan before it starts and for reasons that are purely political. If we even get to the 2010 starting targets, we will have done thousands of times more then the Liberals and Kyoto has ever done in the whole world. Kyoto and its whole issue with CO2 should die. It was based on bad science as we have saw by the actions. This is the environment and it is time to quit playing petty politics with it. Sorry to hijack the thread but I thought I would not want to let the unclean air act comment go by Quote
MightyAC Posted October 20, 2006 Report Posted October 20, 2006 The reason the Liberal brought up MacKay's dog is because MacKay gave an interview outside at his family’s farm with a dog. The whole scene was a political, basically an attempt to depict a good ol' boy hurt by an evil billionaire. Anyway, it turns out the dog was his neighbour's. The Libs referred to the actual dog....Pete turned it into an insult to Belinda. The comment would be witty in a pub but it was obviously a stupid thing for a politician to say. Anyway, he should just apologize and let this relatively small story die. I think he is playing it out as a way of letting his accidental slip deflect some attention from the brutal reception the Clean Air act received yesterday. Quote

M.Dancer Posted October 20, 2006 Author Report Posted October 20, 2006 I think Pete's denials are quite the career stopper........if it ain't written in the record, I didn't say it....which is the line of defense he's taken now...... “They can check the record of Hansard. It's not there. It's not there,” he said. When Dan Dugas, a spokesman for Mr. MacKay, was told Friday that the offending statement is audible on the recording, he repeated an assertion that it is not included in the official transcript of the House of Commons. Would it be too much to apologise? It would go a long way in helping Peter to one day get a date...one that he didn't have to rent, that is....... She may be known for many things, but her recipies probably are not on the list. Who the hell cares? I'd be happy to do the cooking and cleaning as long as she kept bringing home (daddy's) money. As for McKay, word on the street is he's shagging Sophie Desmarais, daughter of Power Corp's Paul Desmarais Sr. I wonder how McKay feels knowing that he's spending the night on sheets purchased with SADDAM HUSSEIN'S BLOOD MONEY???!! Ahem. Sorry. Carry on. Quote
MightyAC Posted October 20, 2006 Report Posted October 20, 2006 Hiding behind the fact that it wasn't written in the record of Hansard is a weak excuse.. Next he will be spouting off Johnnie Cochran lines along the lines of "If the glove don't fit, you must aquit" "If it ain't in Type it's just Liberal Hype..." Topaz Posted October 20, 2006 Report Posted October 20, 2006 In the Alliance/Con government you will notice that the people who are seating in the front rows or acting government are what society calls them "Generation X" This generation governing the country, is totally different from what we are use to seeing. Some lack respect, I wonder if they can spell the word or know what it means. McKay knows he's in trouble, but just like Mulroney did , keep deny it ! I would say to Peter, as a member of Parliament, do the right thing and say your sorry for saying or what you made people think you referred her to. I hope the Speaker comes down on these guys, the country IS watching and perhaps the world! Peter would you really want to be with a person that doesn't want to be with you?? Quote
