paxamericana Posted December 23, 2025 Report Posted December 23, 2025 America’s ship building capacity has been in terminal decline for some decades. This is vital to securing America’s future in a deglobalized world. War is coming. America need to rearm at war time speed. Trump will be ushering in the golden fleet as the first major rebuilding effort. 1 Quote
John Stone Posted December 23, 2025 Report Posted December 23, 2025 33 KT 'battleship' is NOT the future. Basically a larger target. In any case - battleships are def very 'old school' in Naval warfare. Speed, maneuverability and low RCS is the way to survive at sea. Quote

The navy did a study and realize that in a modern, near peer, conflict they would be out of missiles quickly. This is why they did not retire the Ticonderoga destroyers with the modern Ddg ships. This is the real reason behind a larger missile barge concept. Also America is a blue water navy. We need range and lethality, requiring larger ships/tonnage. That being said. Don’t forget the lessons of WWII. Planes beat ships. And the US is unmatched in aviation even with the entire world combined Air Forces. Our planes will blot out the sky. Consequently, our aerospace industrial complex is world class and healthy. In the event we needed to, America can spit out planes like candy on the assembly line. @ExFlyer Edited December 23, 2025 by paxamericana 1 Quote

To maintain that respect the hulls and weapons system need to be routinely replaced - it never ends -it's happening now. The Trump Class has a weapon suite that on paper, is very impressive and def cutting edge technology........... so cutting edge that some of it is still R&D.............. doable for sure, but unproven. The rail-gun intrigues me .......... ditto the laser, anti-missile / drone defensive system - ditto the soft kill capability. Radars are absolutely cutting edge phased array systems. Nuc- capable cruise missiles give it reach. The real choke point is getting it built - American shipyards don't have the capability - this thing is huge, revolutionary and would require re-tooling existing shipyards - which are chock-o-block and behind deliveries but also lacking a work force in terms of numbers. Not an insurmountable problem - international shipyards could take up the slack. A leading-tier Nation, that needs global reach, needs number of hulls - well equipped, trained crews, deployable. I have my doubts we'll ever see any of these ships - they don't make any sense, foreign harbor queen display notwithstanding. Quote
Nationalist Posted December 23, 2025 Report Posted December 23, 2025 IMO...Trump's selling conscription. He's trying to convince people to join his military. Quote Its so lonely in m'saddle since m'horse died.

Ever wonder why the majority of the World's Navy's aren't designed with stealth so much in mind? It's because they want a hull that looks impressive in a foreign port. A stealth design is arguably the ugliest hull you can imagine ........... intimidation factor = zero. ................ akin to a Tesla ............ also ugly!! Quote

Golden Everything is another example of a stuck, stubborn unimaginative mind incapable of learning. He'll probably want to park his Golden Fleet in neat, tidy rows in the same harbour so people can admire it on Sunday morning outings. For only a one bar of gold plated latinum entry fee. Quote

herbie Posted December 24, 2025 Report Posted December 24, 2025 More like he misread Jason and the Argonauts and thought he had a Golden Fleet. So he dreamt up more of his usual Golden Fleece. Quote
