Feds gave Stellantis more than $220M before Brampton decision, records show

The federal government paid Stellantis more than $220 million to help upgrade its plants in Ontario before the automaker revealed plans to move some production to the U.S., recent records show.

It’s more than double the amount the federal government disclosed when asked in October about its Stellantis spending, after the multinational announced that it will scrap plans to build the Jeep Compass at its Brampton plant and assemble it in Belvidere, Ill., instead.

And...

Stellantis contradicts government, says it never requested redactions to contract provided to MPs

In response, Industry Minister Mélanie Joly said that her department would finally release the unredacted agreement to the committee after repeatedly refusing to do so

Massive cover up and scandal going on in Ottawa with the Liberal government.  Joly didn't have government lawyers look over the billion dollar contract before signing it.  The Liberals also gave much more money to Stellantis than they previously disclosed.  They also tried to redact much of the agreement, refusing to reveal the details to the oversight committee.  Stay tuned, this could lead to the fall of the Carney government.

Now get that.  Stellantis had some 2,600 employees of which they decided to lay off 1,000.   The government gave the company $220mil so these employees can have their jobs.   Was it no smarter to just give each of these laid off employees their share of the $220mil, which by my calculation would be $220,000 per person and let them find a new job?    I would take this any time.

The lying and lieberal feds gave them hundreds of millions of our tax dollars, knowing full well that there was going to be a layoff of a 1000 workers. The lieberals are well known for blowing tax dollars away to companies that are going broke and giving away hundreds of billions of Canadian tax dollars to other countries in the form of foreign aid. And yet, there are still a bunch of lieberal imbeciles here and out there that will keep voting for the lieberals.

I am surprised that you are surprised by this? We do not have a federal government that cares about we the peasants anymore. They only worry about blowing tax dollars here in Canada on pretending to try and save our industries and on the rest of the 3rd world.

This is why Canada should cease to exist. It is one big corrupt and lying and thieving communist country. Canada cannot be fixed because we have nobody that can fix it. Canada is finished and bankrupt. And i will bet you that 99% of Canadians could care less about all of those workers at Stellantis being laid off.

Why? Because the majority of Canadians could care less about them getting laid off.  The majority of joe and mary sixpack Canadians out there are pretty much all about themselves. I have not heard one person say anything about those layoffs. Nobody gives a dam period.

Canada is truly being run by a bunch of thieving criminals. Just my opinion. 😇

The value of keeping the plant was $220M.

There's no similar value in just giving 1,000 people $220,000. How much of that would have been spent on foreign vacations?

If the Cultist Narrative Network/Cultist Broadcasting Corporation gave an infinite number of monkeys an infinite number of typewriters, leftists would believe everything they typed.

When you look back with the knowledge the plant was not saved, the 220M was either wasted or skimmed by the Stellantis CEO's and shareholders who went on foreign vacations.

Looking to the future, we’re better off with Asian auto firms here.

When I lived in the GTA in the early 2000's it was predominantly US makes on the streets - Pontiacs Sunfire, Pontiac Grand M, Chrysler Intrepid, Saturns, Ford Taurus and the likes. And I owned and still own one of these cars.

Now 25 years later, where I live it is mostly Subaru CrossTreck , Outback, Forester, Toyota 4 runner or Rav4, Honda CRV, even the odd Mitsubishi and BMW.  US made cars are now a small chunk  - the odd Ford Escape, Crysler minivan etc.   But then many drive pickups, and this is where the US brands are predominant - Ford, Dodge RAM, Chrysler.  Toyota are moving in on this market though.
