Everyone should know what that lie is.  It is very simple.

Guns do not kill people.  Only people kill people.

That is it and that belief system is the reason there are about 48,000 deaths a year by guns in the U.S., half being suicide and the other half being homicide.

Once again it is obvious that there are two interlinked problems that cause these unnecessary deaths.  The gun lobbyist movement is very widespread and influential.  It is a major part of the MAGA and GOP.  They continue to make the false claim that guns do not kill people and only people kill people.  This is a bare-faced lie.

1.  The mental issues of tens of millions or hundreds of millions of citizens, who think shooting people is the way to behave.

2.  The easy availability of guns, particularly handguns, in the U.S. is a fact of life.  Reportedly there are more guns than people.  With no serious gun control of course many mentally unstable or foolish people will use their guns for anything one could imagine.  When most of the population have easy access to hand guns, that is the natural outcome.

The fact is the so-called right to bear arms in the Constitution is being interpreted to mean that every mentally challenged or unstable person has the right to own handguns or assault weapons, even though the Supreme Court has ruled that government has the right to deny convicted felons and mentally ill people from owning guns.  Unfortunately, that principle does not appear to be widely enforced and there is a gun culture.  Almost anyone who wants guns has them, regardless of their mental state.

I used to have many guns of many types. None of them killed or injured anyone.

I guess they all must have been faulty.

The claim is true (unless we are talking about some accident occurring due to a faulty weapon), and you have made no logical argument to refute this claim. Guns do not just go around killing people. People decide to use guns for that purpose. The same way baseball bats don't beat people and cars don't run people over. A person can beat someone with a baseball bat or use a car to run someone over, but those things do not do it themselves.

And hammers don't pound in nails, they just ENABLE people to pound in nails which is something they'd not be able to do (at least not as well) without a hammer of SOME KIND.

When people say guns kill people, they mean the guns ENABLE the MORE EFFICIENT MASS SLAUGHTER. AKA MORE PEOPLE DIE. Those are the people killed by GUNS who would not die without the GUN. Duh

You are conflating murder with any killing. Yes, guns are a tool for killing, but that doesn't mean murder.

But the topic is not "what people mean when they say guns kill people". The topic is the truth behind the statement "Guns don't kill people. People kill people." What they mean is the gun doesn't decide to kill people or even take action on its own. The OP says this is a lie. But it is the truth.

The simpleton deceivers try to defend the lie that "gun's don't kill people;  people kill people".

It is clear to any reasonable person that if you give a loaded gun to child or to a mentally, troubled person or a felon, he might well use the gun and shoot someone.   

The reason why guns kill people is the people use the gun to do the job.

It is the combination of the gun and the potential murderer that kills people.  Use some common sense!

So in both those cases a person killed someone. Person being the singular of people. The gun didn't cause the felon or mentally ill person to kill anyone. Also, as far as being mentally ill goes, there are tons of people diagnosed with mental illnesses who don't kill people.

Of course it is a lie.  The statement guns don't kill people is clearly implying there is nothing wrong with anyone having guns.  It is saying we should not consider guns as a cause of all the shooting of people.  Guns are absolutely a major factor in the homicides and suicides of tens of thousands of people in America per year.  So the claim guns don't kill people is an outright lie and deception that countless people believe.

We know the claim 'guns don't kill people" is completely false.  There are millions of people with mental issues, psychological problems and radical political beliefs that should never have guns.  These are the people who are shooting and killing people every day.  You put a gun in the hands of such people, what do you expect to happen?  Of course when guns are in the hands of the wrong people, which they are, they pull the trigger and kill other people.  

Your saying it is not a lie is incomprehensible and is either deliberately being deceptive or complete ignorance.  Guns are the easy tool that people use to kill others.  There are hundreds of millions of guns in the population.  They are as easy to obtain as a loaf of bread or cup of coffee.

In reality using a spoon in lieu of just lifting the bowl to your mouth doesn't give you a similar advantage as using a gun to kill does. IOW you are twisting like a pretzel.

You are looking for an interpretation that DENIES the responsibility for the role guns play in the huge excess deaths in America. Guns do kill many more people HERE, because they are far easier to kill with than the next tool (knives) available.

YOU STILL have not acknowledged the FACT of their essential ROLE in those excess deaths. 

Easy access to guns are clearly responsible for MANY DEATHS HERE.

This is just one example out of tens of thousands of cases which demonstrate what happens when millions of guns are in the hands of millions of people who should never have them in the first place.  So many people are so mentally unstable and irrational that they will shot anyone at the drop of a hat.  Yet they have guns at their fingertips ready to shot anybody on a moment's notice.
