WASHINGTON (AP) — The 22-year-old philosophy student from China did not expect any problems after his 29-hour flight arrived at a Texas airport this month as he was on his way to study at the University of Houston.

His paperwork was in order. He was going to study humanities — not a tech field that might raise suspicions. He had a full scholarship from the U.S. school and had previously spent a semester at Cornell University for an exchange program with no issues.

But the student, who asked to be identified only by his family name, Gu, because of the political sensitivities of the matter, was stopped, interrogated and 36 hours later, put on a plane back to China."

You know, if you didn't jump to so many unwarranted conclusions, you would not get any exercise at all.

Unless you walk the golf course instead of riding a cart, which I doubt.

Obviously they found out something about him that they didn't like, so that's that.

What else you got?

Why doesn't Canada open their borders with open arms to him instead?

Why would he apply for a Canadian school when he had already been accepted by a US school? Maybe he will now. China is second to India in the number of foreign students in Canada.

Canada seems to be a lot more accepting. Illegal aliens would do better there.

The point was why doesn't Canada welcome him. Whether he applies or not is on him. These Canadians keep pushing their crap on us instead of demanding it from their own country.

Foreign students from China must be all Communist spies!   Only in a twisted, paranoid mind.

You don't think he applied to attend a US school. Do you think Canada should abduct him? Stop blaming Canada for your country's actions, try taking a little responsibility yourself.

Canada welcomes many foreign students.  You just don't know what you are talking about.

"Many" but not all. Why not?

If you care so much about this guy, why don't you petition your government to extend an invitation to him?
