On this, I strongly agree with Rand Paul. (Otherwise, I think he misses the broader point of life: we have to get along.)

In Canada, we do not have such a federal department.

For many reasons, in Canada, we leave education to provinces.

You seem to have come of age in an era where rationality reigned.  There is a common theme in your posts that rational actors are making choices, sometimes bold ones.

Well we can never really know, sometimes until much later, how decisions develop behind closed doors... I think you should let go of the assumption that people know what they're doing.

It may make sense to move education into more of a local jurisdiction... But that doesn't appear to be the governing principal here.

Looks like someone has a new patronizing catch phrase !

The US Dept. of Education was a woke dispenser. It's why Trump's had to diminish it.

And what do you think is the governing principal here?

The Department of Education exists (existed) because there are states who wouldn’t fund poor schools, wouldn’t protect kids with disabilities, wouldn’t follow civil rights laws, especially in the South. That you want a return to that is astounding.

Leaving it all up to the states will create an insane disparity.

They become iron rice bowls.

Michael,

WTF!

We in civilised, get-along Canada have always left education in provincial hands. For various historic reasons.

I don't know about federal Germany.

France? It's centralised.

I don't care what they become. If it doesn't put the US first, I have zero interest in it.

Yes, no need for WTFs... this is clear to me.  In the American context, I don't trust that there are principles at play on any level.  It's purely reactionary.

The Department of Education was overrun by left-wing activists. Now it's under the watchful eye of those who actually care about Education.

For ten minutes until it's deleted.

And of course any government department need only be assessed with a one-sentence summary reflecting ideological stereotypes....

Sorry, Mike. The truth is that there's no need for a Federal Department of Education. Each state needs to be handling their own education system.
