The back story was from a woman working for Mossad who uncovered the invasion plans and tried to interest her bosses, but was shot down. Apparently because higher ups wanted to keep knowledge of the plans secret.

The excuse given for quashing that knowledge was higher ups in Mossad thought the plans were fanciful and so ambitious Hamas would never succeed. IMO, they wanted to pretend it was a surprise attack to fuel anger and justify an overreaction.

Israel did not have the attack plans for October 7th. They had a vague intelligence report that they were planning something.
