August1991
We currently have three thread titles that indicate nothing about the thread's discussion. This is not helpful to posters and does not reflect well on the forum. It's an invitation to directionless rants. Greg, I suggest that when you find such a thread title, you simply delete the thread. If you do this once or twice, the problem will stop.
Forum Admin Greg Posted May 9, 2006 Forum Admin Report Share Posted May 9, 2006 Agreed. This is indeed a large problem and it will hopefully solved when I have the assistance of a few Forum Facilitators. Please stay tuned to the News and Announcement section for more information. Thanks! Quote Have any issues, problems using the forum? Post a message in the Support and Questions section of the forums.

I supposed in another thread that there was - some other discussion forums make such changes possible -, but as far as I can see, from having begun a topic myself, there isn't. If there isn't, are there plans to enable this feature in the future?
Charles Anthony
Greg or Charles, is there a way for the original poster of a thread to change the thread title? For the time being, use the Report function to indicate what the correction should be. If you are the creator of the thread, the correction will be made as soon as we check the messages. The new Forum Facilitators will likely have the privilege of receiving those Reports as well. Thus, such errors could be corrected with minimal delay. I supposed in another thread that there was - some other discussion forums make such changes possible -, but as far as I can see, from having begun a topic myself, there isn't. If there isn't, are there plans to enable this feature in the future?I do not know.--- If my lame attempt at injecting irony and sarcastic humor in post #3 up above has gone over like a lead zeppelin, please, just ignore it. . --- Back specifically to the query of the Opening Post, Greg's reply does not explicitly identify whether he agrees to the suggested remedy or not. I will be sure to clarify this issue with him. Quote We do not have time for a meeting of the flat earth society. << Où sont mes amis ? Yes, it should be a banning offense. Maybe even a drawing and quartering offence. After all, if someone still has dialup, it may take a whole 5 seconds to find out what the topic is about. We're all busy people and time is money, and money is the root of...well never mind... Btw, how long did it take to make the complaining post? If we delete this thread instead, can we pass one of the others? Why would you want to delete threads just because it takes an extra second of tittilating curiosity to see what it's about? Charles Anthony
If we delete this thread instead, can we pass one of the others?Personally, I would not want to make any changes to the those two recent examples identified in post #6 up above for one reason only: to illustrate what NOT to do. If you can call that "pass one of the others" so be it. The irony is that this thread was opened over a year ago and we now have (at least) two RECENT examples of threads with non-descriptive titles degenerating rapidly into directionless rants. Shakeyhands
HEY!!!! I thought the title of my thread was a bit of a teaser in order to generate some interest. I forgot that some of you are busy sitting in pubs with wifi, pontificating. It takes two seconds to see what a thread is about by looking in it, or you could just pass it by if the title does not spell the topic out for you. What a bunch of whiners. Yes, no doubt due entirely to the non-descriptive titles. No other threads degenerate in quite the same way.

(It's a religious thread about Islam. Your ridiculous thread titles make it difficult to find. I'm still looking.) Second, imagine curious lurkers faced with a panoply of threads (or Google searchers incorrectly directed). How would they know where to click? ScottSA
One man's correct is another man's confusion. I'm confused. Can we change the thread title to: "Can we spend days debating the elements of thread titles, and how they perhaps ought to have a table of contents, or some alternate method of ensuring that after a quick glance at the title/table of contents, we'll know whether we want to go to all the enormous trouble of clicking on the link?" Charles Anthony
BUMP!! SHORT VERSION; If you start a thread discussion, you are expected to create a title that reflects clearly and precisely the topic you are discussing. Otherwise, we may take down your new thread.
