Denmark in ‘crisis mode’ after ‘horrendous’ phone call from Trump demanding to buy Greenland 24 January, 2025

Denmark is in “crisis mode” after Donald Trump made a direct play for Greenland in a “horrendous” phone call with the country’s prime minister. The US president spoke to Mette Frederiksen, the Danish premier, for 45 minutes last week and made clear he wanted to place Greenland under American control.

Ms Frederiksen told him in their call last week that despite his “big interest”, Greenland was not for sale, the Financial Times reported.

Mr Trump then became “aggressive”, according to the newspaper, and threatened to impose tariffs on Denmark unless Greenland was sold to the US.

This is an insanity plain and clear as it is and they just shrug it off like nothing much happening. What will they not accept?

The decay is complete. The Republicans went to a third world authoritarian cult, abandoning the rule of law and long standing principles in international politics. Denmark is a founding member of NATO.

Sane America should not ignore these manifestations of insanity and budding lawlessness. It may only be testing the ground, and most of the Republicans are showing full readiness to fold and applaud.

That does it. I can no longer understand the Republicans. For decades talking about NATO strengthening the alliance of democracies, then one morning putting on their suit and turning on a dime to applaud direct threats to one of the closest allies?

No, there's nothing normal here it's past the line, way past it and dangerously past it. Republicans if they don't and couldn't control and stop this insanity will only prove that they are no longer a party of democracy but fully gave in to and embraced an insane authoritarian cult of the worst kind in American history. Between these extremes, there's no middle ground.

It's not the fact that Trump has become a delusional madman that upsets me.  It's the fact that so many Republicans bow down to him and let him take charge of what was once a respectable party.  It's time for Canada to get together with Denmark and the rest of the EU.

It matters little to Trump who the PM of Canada is, or how some are trying to appease him. Trump is hell bent on exploiting our natural resources, and he is prepared to use force to do so.

Why is everyone so smug about it, in the U.S.? You don't value and don't need allies anymore? This is a leader of an allied nation, a founding member of the alliance that was offended by the bully? The Republicans may be gone but where are the Democrats? More important business? Nothing much to worry about?

It's in the times like these the true value of all claims, causes and individuals is exposed. Let's see it, live.

Denmark should sell. The US will make better use of that land.

What the world can note is that the leader of the U.S., formerly seen as the leader of the free world, and his pet mob is using exact same "arguments" as his admired idols Vlad and Xi. No way that fact cannot escape the attention of the sane world.

It's apathy. My guess is that it has a lot to do with the internet, and social media. It's probably desensitised us to bad behaviour, and a warped sense of morality. I am convinced that Trump could not have become President in the 90s, when democratic safeguards were still strong.

This is somewhat similar to what happened in Germany during the 1930s. The media and political opponents eventually fell in line with the Nazis, and the oligarchs supported him, since he was vehemently opposed to the Communist Party, who had the second most seats in the Reichstag. The fact that many on the right are trying to whitewash the Nazis, and emulate them is of course, extremely concerning.

As I said before, this never ends well for any of us. Trump is treating traditional allies, the exact same was Germany treated Austria, Czechoslovakia, and Poland in the late 1930s.

PS...The voices of the MAGA hyenas will become louder, and will dramatically increase in numbers soon. History tends to repeat itself, and ordinary Germans would tell people who did not fall in line, to shut up. We saw it at the church service, and we will see it with more frequency in the coming months.

Democrats will prosper in the next election by allowing Trump to make a fool of himself when he comes away from his demands empty handed (I hope).

So no one to stand for the truth now? And the future, elections, procedures are all guaranteed by the sheet of old paper? You're just as insane as the other side. A total collapse of morality. Astounding.

Very little can be done aside from demonstrating the immorality of Trump's policies and the best case is using that demonstration to kick the bums out.

It's getting easier to see the path to annexation - we're probably only a couple of steps away from the declaration of a national security emergency to justify it. Probably similar to what will make the last election the last one.

Promises made promises kept right?

A government without public oversight is like a nuclear plant without lead shielding.

This sounds pathetic and disgusting, both. Wish I could say more. This is exactly how it happened the last time: and don't you dare to blame anybody but the mirror.

Trump cult is awful quiet.

I noticed that too, maybe it's:

"because there can be no intelligent discussion with a recording: it doesn't change regardless of any input from the reality, no matter what is fed into it it produces the same tone. That theoretically eliminates any logical point of trying to talk to it. Proven, mathematically: no difference."

Or so I hear...

What's YOUR BRILLIANT PLAN, Einstein?

Very little can be done without the power holding office gives.

"You have to give me your land for my security" is a staple from the playbook of aggressive dictators like Hitler and Putin. It's beyond comprehension that the only party, presumably on the side of normality and law would stay silent and cozy about that. Unbelievable. Is it what a total dereliction of duty, decay and corruption look like? Simply beyond any comprehension.

myata still can't believe that Americans don't accept open borders and the complete degradation of whites - especially white males.

Ah but they need to feel proud in their ugliness and stupidity. But what else? A high speed train? World-class health care for an average citizen? Best in the world life expectancy? Safe streets and schools? That kind of pride, make no mistake.
