What makes you think people were so different then? 17 hours ago, User said: What Jesus didn't do or preach was that his followers should vote for and support a leader to tax everyone else to help the sick, poor, and needy... So what, he didn't say they shouldn't either. 17 hours ago, User said: ...or to get the evil rich people's money through taxes to do those things for them. He talked enough about the evils of money though which of course is why he was killed. As for Jesus prophesying his own death...you can be pretty sure Alexei Navalny saw it coming too for much the same reason. No, as I already explained, you are conflating personal actions with government actions. 2 minutes ago, eyeball said: So what, he didn't say they shouldn't either. Jesus did not specifically say you should not stub your toe, that doesn't mean Jesus wants you to stub your toe. Logic and good argument isn't your strong suit here. 3 minutes ago, eyeball said: He talked enough about the evils of money though which of course is why he was killed. That is not the story of Jesus at all. He was to be a sacrifice for our sins. Quote

What makes you think this logic is a good argument when you use it? 33 minutes ago, User said: Where do you get he was killed over money? That his most relevant insights into the human condition survived being written into the bible is the real miracle. Especially since his prescription for mitigating the worst of it (doing unto others yadda yadda) was so threatening to people of power and wealth. Cmon eyeball, I'm no expert on matters of the Christian religion but it sounds like you got that information off Netflix. 1 Quote
herbie Posted January 1 Report Posted January 1 What is actually dumb is thinking 'society' is or should be based around the Bible or Christianity. Some people just can't handle that it's 2025 not 1025. Quote

It's miraculous how you can seemingly ask it anything and get an answer, why its almost like it can read your thoughts. Did the scholars who wrote the Bible have the sense God was working through them - that their words were really His? Or is this just another supernatural superlative added on by institutions and people on a mission? I'm no expert either but to me it sounds like 99% of the Bible was written under the influence of LSD. Like I said it's a wonder there's anything useful to have come out of it. In actual fact I'm quite certain even Neanderthals knew doing unto others yadda yadda was the appropriate way to comport yourself in the world. Gaétan Posted January 1 Report Posted January 1 Here is a right wing capitalist exemple: The Rich Man and Lazarus 19 “There was a rich man who was dressed in purple and fine linen and lived in luxury every day. 20 At his gate was laid a beggar named Lazarus, covered with sores 21 and longing to eat what fell from the rich man’s table. Even the dogs came and licked his sores. 22 “The time came when the beggar died and the angels carried him to Abraham’s side. The rich man also died and was buried. 23 In Hades, where he was in torment, he looked up and saw Abraham far away, with Lazarus by his side. 24 So he called to him, ‘Father Abraham, have pity on me and send Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue, because I am in agony in this fire.’ Quote

That's my temple. The fact I'm stardust and the sense consciousness is how the universe realizes itself grounds me in that reality. I'm guessing you're more devoted by self - flagellation. By the sound of things, I'm guessing you don't want the bible stuffed down your throat. I'd also guess that you'd oppose mandatory payer meetings in schools, things like afterschool bible studies and secret baptisms without parental consent. You'd likely also oppose the idea of fining communities that refuse to set up a nativity scenes in the town square. Being called a Jesusphobe because of it wouldn't likely change your opinion either... you might even consider it a weak sister diversion or a blatant personal attack intended to silence you. Maybe you''d even come to resent the fact that you initially supported Christians in their effort to expand freedom of religion and now feel duped by how far they've pushed the ideology. If so, then welcome to the conservative party. Quote
