Legato Posted June 25, 2024 Report Posted June 25, 2024 Conservative candidate Don Stewart has won the longtime federal Liberal stronghold of Toronto-St. Paul's, a stunning result that raises questions about Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's future. Stewart's victory is shocking because the seat has been held by the Liberals for more than 30 years — even through the party's past low points, such as the 2011 federal election that returned just 34 Liberal MPs to Parliament. Before Monday's vote, a Conservative candidate hadn't been competitive in Toronto–St. Paul's since the 1980s. The party hadn't won a seat in urban Toronto since the 2011 federal election. Monday's result was a nail-biter to the very end. https://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/byelection-polls-liberal-conservative-ballot-vote-1.7243748 1 Quote

The question is not about his "future" which is as a political "was" but about his immediate plans. It wouldn't be shocking if he resigned in the coming months or even weeks. 1 Quote Click to learn why Climate Change is caused by HUMANS Michael Hardner

Don't think he will resign, it goes against his nature. 1 Quote

He literally also has a white savior complex, and feels he's the right person to save Canada from Pierre Poilievre. The level of delusion, is one of the several reasons am sure, behind his wife leaving him. He just doesn't listen, even if its in his best interest. He doubles down, digs in and gaslights, flails in classic narssisstic fashion. He's not failing Canadians, you are the ones who don't care enough about forest fires. You're the ones, guilty of failing those in need. Its sad to the point of being comical. He clearly doesn't care about others, as if he did he would do what was best in the interest of his party and of all Canadians. Not just those who believe higher taxes will stop nature from causing fires. Quote
ExFlyer Posted June 29, 2024 Report Posted June 29, 2024 While it was a huge loss for the Liberals, they still only lost by about 500 votes out of a potential 75,000 voters (Not sure of the number of total b=voters the voted) Plus there were 75 or 80 candidates on the list to vote for. The votes were split a lot. That can easily change again in the next election. Thing is southern Ontario is still the liberal stronghold and a lot more turnovers will be needed to oust the liberals in a good fashion. Quote Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. The conservatives were a non-issue there when I lived in St Paul's. The idea that things can easily change depends on some seismic unforseen event torpedoing the CPC. 1 Quote Click to learn why Climate Change is caused by HUMANS Michael Hardner

Yes, I am hopeful I am really hoping the liberals have pissed off enough Ontarians that they lose seats. Nothing is easily changed but Justin has really turned a lot of people off. 1 Quote Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. But you are not entitled to your own facts.

Not shocking at all, what would be shocking is for them to come up with a viable replacement. Edited June 29, 2024 by herbie Quote
