Interesting how we respect honours given by other countries but dump on our own. Very Canadian. "WE'RE NOT WORTHY". Not surprising that came from a Canadian comedian.

I mean, the US gave a POS like Rush Limbaugh the Presidential Medal of Freedom for Christ's sake.

Yup, you are what you are.... whacked LOL

Don Cherry was an all around a$$, that is why he was excluded and will never be included.

May have been an ass, but he did a lot for our national sport...he was canceled for using "YOU people" do we really think a career of over 50 years was worth torpedoing for a few words...I'm sure everyone on here has said something they would regret and was not canceled or lost a lucrative job.

We, the willing, led by the unknowing, are doing the impossible for the ungrateful. We have now done so much for so long with so little, we are now capable of doing anything with nothing.

Apparently it is if it's someone the left doesn't like. If it's someone they approve of then of course not, don't be silly.

True but Cherry was an employee of the CBC, he wasn't entitled to a platform. I think the "you people" comment was just used as an excuse to do what they had wanted to do for some time.

CBC gave him the platform, and he made it famous.... and it was cherry that brought in millions of viewers, his between periods commentary was worth every minute and every dollar they paid him...and after a long career he was canceled for a comment or maybe several comments... he always told it how it was, and bunch of Karen's must have complained.... i mean it was hockey right, we have all heard worse when the players are mic ed up.... i wonder how many viewers now watch other sports networks becasue of that decision...i know i do...

Geez, you can get torpedoed here for not agreeing LOL

As for who gets it "All individuals who make outstanding contributions to their field of endeavour are eligible for appointment to the Order of Canada. Why not nominate someone today? Anyone can do it, and there is no deadline for submissions." So, someone has to nominate... has that even been done for Cherry???

As for the cartoonist, he is internationally reknown so, his contributions are not just a talking head between periods on a tv show.

Are you saying that Don Cherry did NOT make an outstanding contribution to his field?

You're just digging yourself in deeper with all this.

It can get brutal around here sometimes....there are plenty of worse sites you could be on however...

One would hope that someone is vetting these things has a higher definition of outstanding contributions to the country...and to be honest no i would no nominate cherry, not for what he said, but rather he did not provide outstanding contributions to the nation in my opinion...

Santa claus also known around the globe, he does not draw cartoons , but he does fly around the entire globe in one night in a sleigh pulled by reindeer...i mean he should be a shoe in...i can't believe nobody has nominated him yet...it kind of diminishes the award when we start handing it out to cartoonists, i mean what is outstanding about drawing a cartoon...when i was thinking more of a brother pulling his younger sister out of a burning building, and going in to get the pet dog...that would be outstanding...maybe we have reduced it to everyone gets a medal for coming out...

I get the sarcasm. Santa is a fictional character though.

If he was called a political commentator as opposed to cartoonist would that smooth your hackles? Because that is what he is. He makes his political commentary visually rather than orally or written. He is internationally renowned.

Lots of TV and radio personalities have been inducted among other common everyday Canadians that have contributed to their communities.. That is what they do.

Point of the Order Of Canada is to recognize Canadians that have brought Canada recognition. "As of January 2023, 8,216 people have been appointed to the Order, including scientists, musicians, politicians, artists, athletes, business people, film stars and benefactors."

Do we want to pick apart each one for whatever reason? Who are we (you and me) to judge the competency or deserving attributes?

I too got the Queens Jubilee Medal. The selection process for receiving it was quite stringent (as my Colonel informed me). There were XXX allotted to different segments of Canadian society (RCMP, Military and civilian groups) and each group decided who they were awarded. If you decided not to wear it after it was presented to you, I think you insulted your superiors that chose you as a recipient by their section criteria.

But would you cancel it for someone who's had a full career, simply because you didn't like one of the cartoons?

The issue is the total dominance and enforcement of one political perspective through government, media, and business, along with the suppression and oppression of any real opposition.  That’s what Canada has become. That cartoon and so many like it read like propaganda. One would have to visit places like Cuba to find an analogue.

Exactly.  Real conservatives and plain speaking populists are canceled and deplored in Canada.  It’s just how it always goes now.  People in MSM in Canada don’t understand why independent media like Joe Rogan call Canada communist.  Their response, predictably, is to cast him as another deplorable.  Y’know, the redneck who supported Bernie Sanders.

Your right who am i do complain who gets what, it is above my pay grade and i've got better things to worry about...thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

I'm not the only one, that decided not to mount it...here at 2 RCR all the senior officers, and senior capts, along with all the CSM, and other MWO's were awarded, as well as a few select WO's...So the criteria at the unit was not all that stringent, just be a senior rank of some sort... i personally think it would have been much better to open it up to all deserving members of all ranks.. i mean really it was a freebee, besides i really did not need another medal, I'd already had enough for people to take notice one more was not going to make a difference and nobody really noticed.. but it would have had more meaning if it truly was an award that was earned some how. ( within the confines of 2 RCR, becasue every unit had different criteria ) I had full intentions of wearing it , but after finding out justin bieber was awarded i just put off getting it mounted... it lessened the importance of it..and a few guys including myself decided not to get it mounted...after the posting season nobody even notice or cared...I in no way want to diminish that medal for someone else...and i mean no disrespect by not wearing it, i don't feel i earned it, like all the others i do wear...

Sarcasm, well done.

I am sorry your regiment did not make the effort or take the medal seriously. I feel that your leadership failed and did all your recipients wrong.

If you felt no disrespect by not wearing the award and felt you did not earn it then that is a complete failure of the leadership to make it worthwhile. Too bad.

Our leadership made awarding the medal to personnel  as important as the annual PER that is used for promotion.
