Canada's Minister of Foreign Affairs doesn't seem to understand the middle east at all.

Melanie Joly, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, was on the news this morning again touting a "two-state" solution for Israel and the Palestinians.   It is clear she has no idea of what the causes of the conflict are.  A so-called two-state solution would not work for several reasons.

1.  The Arabs (or many of them) have absolutely no inclination to give up their belief that Israel has no right to exist and their desire to destroy Israel.  This struggle has been going on for centuries and is not going to disappear by simply carving up Israel and giving the Palestinians half of the land.

2.  Cutting out half of the land of Israel would seriously threaten its security and ability to defend itself.  So as far as Israel is concerned they will never allow it to happen.  They are in the best position to see how determined Iran and the terrorist organizations are determined to eliminate them.

So it is a waste of breath for the Minister of Foreign Affairs to keep harping on that line.  We know it obviously sounds good to simpletons and therefore plays well to the base.  But it is totally unrealistic.

So, Palestine and Palestinians have no right to exist either and Israel has the right to tell them where they can live??

Not defending any part of the shit show over there but, all are culpable for what is going on over there.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. But you are not entitled to your own facts.

The problem is they don't want to co-exist. IF they were open to the idea we would have seen a two state solution ages ago - israel's willing to consider it.

And then there could be peace no problem. If both sides wanted to co exist, it would start off tense with various frictions and imperfect solutions, and within a generation it would be completely normal, barriers and restrictions would evaporate and life would go on.

But - that's not how gaza wants it. So - now it's like the highlander. There can be only one.  :)   And so israel should deny Palestine the right to exist and tell them where they can live. Which is always what happens when two nations go to war and one loses.

The truth is the Palestinian children and young people are taught to hate Israel and the Jews from day one.  That is just the way they grow up.  There are some Palestinians that work in Israel and have realized that hate is a fruitless path but they do not control the majority living in the West Bank, Gaza, and elsewhere in the middle east.  Since there is nothing that anyone can do to change that, things will just continue the way they are indefinitely.

The best solution is to move Israel to Oregon and give the Palestinians back their land. The United States supports Israel's right to exist and Oregon has a similar climate, so it would end the conflict. Nobody bothered to ask the Palestinians for their approval when the UN decided to give part of Palestine to the Israelis. I listened to an Israeli Cabinet Minister on the BBC's "Hard Talk." He actually believes the West Bank is part of Israel because it was part of Israel 2000 years ago. By that logic, the entire Mississippi watershed from the 49th parallel to the Gulf of Mexico belongs to Canada because it was part of Canada in the 18th century.

No, no. Idaho, or parts of Montana. They could feel right at home with those militia nutz hating them as much as Hamas does.
