DURING THE 2020 election, Jared Kushner tried to artificially “inflate” Donald Trump’s sinking numbers in the polls against Joe Biden, according to New York Times reporter Maggie Haberman’s new book. Within Team Trump, Haberman reports, the purpose of Kushner’s request was clear — he just wanted to juke the survey numbers, in the hopes of keeping his father-in-law from flying into a rage.

In Confidence Man: The Making of Donald Trump and the Breaking of America, Haberman writes, “Kushner, who oversaw reelection strategy from his post as a White House senior adviser, advised a …campaign pollster, Tony Fabrizio, to inflate Trump’s standing in surveys that would be shown to the candidate by adding percentage points to his position in the horse race.”

According to book passages reviewed by Rolling Stone, the “ostensible reason” for this was Kushner and others’ contention that polling firms “always missed Trump voters.” However, to various Trump 2020 officials, it was obvious that the “real reason” for Kushner’s advice to Fabrizio was to “avoid upsetting Trump.”

Of course anyone reading the polls knew Trump was significantly BEHIND.

From Day One, Trump never ever said he would concede the election if he lost. He was asked many times and he never said he would abide by the peaceful transition of power. Staying in power at all costs was his goal from the start.

The Liberals polled comfortably ahead of the conservatives in the last two elections but lost the popular vote.

Hillary polled way ahead of Trump, he was only supposed to have a very slight chance of winning, but he crushed her.

Say what you want about polls, but pollsters know what they need to show in order to get on CNN, CBC, CTV, NBC et al, and those stations need to be able to back their bullshit narratives with polls that say "I told you so - look who the cool kids are voting for!"

CNN can't say "Everyone hates Trump almost as much as they love Biden" and then show polls that have Trump way ahead. They need that fake polling data to put a bow on their story.

CTV can't say "This scandal never really affected Canadians' positive views on Trudeau" and then show polls that have him sinking. They need polls that say "This story doesn't mean Jack."

The major news networks also know that dismal polling results will have a major affect voter apathy, and voter apathy is a huge influencer of elections.

Just think about how closely polling data matches up with the opinions of the major networks, vs how closely polling data matches up with the opinions of the electorate.

Polls jive with CTV and CNN on a day-to-day, minute-by-minute basis, and the polls were 0 for 4 on the last 4 elections.

Right now polling has the PCs way ahead in Canada, and that gives the pollsters a lot of credibility because Canadians know that's true, but as we approach the next election you'll see the polls start to say what CBC and CTV need them to say. Book it.
