betsy Posted January 14, 2021 Report Posted January 14, 2021 Enola Gray The Men, the Mission, the Atomic Bomb (1980) HIROSHIMA 1995 Japanese-Canadian war drama film directed by Koreyoshi Kurahara and Roger Spottiswoode about the decision-making processes that led to the dropping of the atomic bombs by the United States on the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki toward the end of World War II. The three-hour film was made for television (Showtime Network) and evidently had no theatrical release, but is available on DVD for home viewing. A combination of dramatisation, historical footage, and eyewitness interviews, the film alternates between documentary footage and the dramatic recreations. Both the dramatisations and most of the original footage are presented as sepia-toned images, serving to blur the distinction between them. The languages are English and Japanese, with subtitles, and the actors are largely Canadian and Japanese. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hiroshima_(1995_film) https://archive.org/details/Hiroshima_201702 1

betsy Posted January 14, 2021 Report Posted January 14, 2021 (edited) SAVIOR (1998 - Dennis Quaid) A hardened mercenary in the Foreign Legion begins to find his own humanity when confronted with atrocities during the fighting in Bosnia. note: you have to click the screen twice. https://www.actvid.com/movie/watch-savior-full-2826 As If I Am Not There A harsh dose of cinematic realism about a harsh time-the Bosnian War of the 1990s-Juanita Wilson's drama is taken from true stories revealed during the International Criminal Tribunal in The Hague. Samira is a modern schoolteacher in Sarajevo who takes a job in a small country village just as the war is beginning to ramp up. When Serbian soldiers overrun the village, shoot the men and keep the women as laborers (the older ones) and sex objects (the younger ones), Samira is subjected to the basest form of treatment imaginable. - Imdb Edited January 14, 2021 by betsy 1

The movie Exodus ended before the whole Jerusalem convoy event. Cast a Giant Shadow is its own film...but does cover the convoy. So between the two...... betsy Posted January 14, 2021 Report Posted January 14, 2021 A Cry From The Grave A cry from the grave (1999) movie is based on the massacre of srebrenica that took place in 1995. In that massacre almost 7000+ muslims lost their lives in the hands of Bosnian serb army. This movie shows us the hour to hour situational story of those merciless killings. This painful story has the testimony of the people who survived with some misery left in their life still. This movie was shown in the United Nations. This is one of the best documentaries ever. This is quite a discussion on the history and the how the srebrenica had its fall. 1

It was worth it. Damn film makes me cold... I found the rather detached camera angles very convincing...like you were a ghostly observer at times. The scene where the one trooper shoots his friend...gets caught by Russians...they get caught by Germans...everybody then gets shot...that pretty much sums up that battle. The tank attack was good. Tankers on the Eastern Front learned to coat their tanks with non-magnetic paste (Zimmerit for the Germans) to ward off those magnetic sticky bombs. The shaped charge could melt a hole through most armor, apparently. Nothing cracks a turtle like Leon Uris.

I was put in mind of all those Sven Hassel books I read as a youngster. I've been looking for them in used bookstores. They must be quite popular still. Hard to find.

Cross of Iron has a similar good tank scene. The battle in the factory. Sven...I had a bunch of his books and those Ballantine Books. They were cheap...but meaty content wise.
