In my opinion the most important key was international travel, not physical proximity to China.

Even within China, a vast and high population nation, the virus remained well-confined due to stoppage of general travel.

Thus to defeat the virus we must create small cluster-communities that can function and be isolated for short times. Which is the complete opposite of the current course of humanity, might I add.

Sorry if honest people who work and serve our nation don't get your welfare-community jargon. Like I said, this is why we just can't be friends...

Interesting you should mention psilocyben.  Apparently it's being touted by psychiatrists as a treatment for end-of-life distress.  It's thought that taking it causes new new neural pathways to form along with a greater number of inter-connections between neurons. Patients report feeling more thoughtful, being at greater ease and more accepting of their situation.

You just can't get over your sense of self-righteousness can you?  It's hard to believe I've single handedly poisoned your entire attitude towards social-welfare and I'll bet you know someone in your family or circle of friends and associates who are also getting free stuff.  Do you look down your nose and quote Ayn Rand at them while referring to them as despicable scum or do you act all PC and keep your hate and resentment all bottled up inside? You could get an ulcer doing that you know.  I sure hope you're not armed.

Taiwan gets tons of travel to and from China. Half a million Taiwanese work in China, and 80,000 Chinese tourists visit Taiwan every month.

I see, so you like to use mind-altering drugs. Yes it all becomes clear now. Please take a big dose, you need to add some more pathways.

That's right, take this pill and you will become more accepting of the situation. This is exactly the message the communist bots are putting out, to pollute the minds of our youth. they've been at it since the 60's. Bob Dillon was the brainchild of the Bolsheviks and look what that did to the youth of our nations. A generaltion of acid-head burned out mushroom eaters.

Maybe the Chinese gave their friends a nice warning, eh? Maybe the Taiwan and NK, and some others got a memo we never received. I don't trust the Chinese nor their friends and allies to be forthcoming, that they would warn the rest of the world. They keep quiet about their internal problems. They will handle it themselves and in secrecy, as authoritarian regimes want to do. Now if I recall correctly, the USA offered to help China at the very beginning of all this, and they rejected it.

Taiwan is the opposite of a friend and ally of China. Canada is much more friendly with China than Taiwan is.

To the Chinese, Taiwan is their province. Even though they have strife. It's not like the Chinese attitude to Canada or the US. These are their bretheren. They speak same same.

It is interesting that the earliest known case of covid-19 was in France. Wouldn't it be ironic if it originated in Europe? After all, the "Spanish" flu started in Kansas.

Also the part I said about China letting the virus go without warning. Evidence they halted internal domestic flights to protect themselves, but allowed international flights to continue. They even stole the PPE using Chinese nationals, while the world remained unaware. This can be proven. The other stuff is speculation, not provable not worth arguing over. Sticking just to the facts, reality says they suck.

You've been living with this Coo-cooville view of things since the 60's?  How could someone as old as you be considered an essential worker anyway?

In any case you'd deny a cancer patient or even yourself perhaps an end of life palliative treatment to ease psychological suffering because...eyeball got free stuff and Bob Dylan was the brainchild of the Bolsheviks? If you say so.

Canada is doing poorly in the statistical poker-game for the coronavirus. The curve is long and slow. Other countries are already showing clear declines in new cases, and in deaths as well. Meanwhile Canada is now experiencing more deaths per day than ever before, and the trend is still going up.

A closer look at what is happening in Canada reveals that the overwhelming majority of our deaths have occurred in old-age homes (est. 85-95%). The remainder are comprised largely of elderly who were not in old age homes and died, and younger people who had serious pre-conditions.

And yet, we never heard of any special precaution or major investment in protecting people in old-age homes. Instead we entered a faux quarantine in which we actually didn't quarantine. Fortunately the virus does not affect healthy people, end of story no debate on that one. Our hospitals were not overwhelmed, they weer terribly underwhelmed while others waited for important procedures, the hospital halls were empty.

At the same time, we did not turn our attention to the deaths that were (are...) occurring in old-age homes. Why was not more money diverted to these places. If they cannot be quarantined, and if we want to actually save their lives they need to be taken out of there, separated so that the quarantine is effective. Living in close quarters, being 80 years old is a death trap. Yet here in Canada, we did nothing special in that regard.

And why is that? Perhaps its by that good, auld, adage "stupid is as stupid does..."

I believe Darwin's theory too but if you're waiting and watching for everyone to revert to some hunting gathering survival of the fittest mode aren't you looking for a de-evolution?  Socialism is a product of evolution that's pointing in the other direction, up ahead of us.

Well someone has to work the french-fry cooker at McDicks. We do get an extra buck danger pay, so it's pretty worth it.

The outbreak came to quickly and moved to fast for an unprepared health care system. You're making it sound like a lack of special precaution or major investment was as deliberate as you imagine the rush for free stuff was.

Why was the health care system so unprepared in the first place?  My guess is years and years of society having to drag around a bunch of miserable cranky old conservatives forever kicking and screaming their heads off about people getting free stuff.  You're obsessed.

That's just more than anyone deserves.  I'm looking forward to the day when I get to give up my property and everything I've worked for in exchange for a rice bowl a pair of pyjama's and an AK47.  That's all I'll ever need.

Money has to come from somewhere, doesn't it Gump? Health care system gets supported by government funding. That comes from taxes. Taxes, in turn, are paid by those who go to work.

So when people are on welfare and abusing those benefits, it places a strain on the system and there is not enough money to pay for important things like new hospitals, to meet the demanding growth of our population. Especially the eldery, whom are now a large demographic and need the support of our health care system more than ever.

Yet it is people like you who wreck the system, and fail us all. Even our grandparents who built this nation and worked hard. While you it in idle repose, smoking your doobies or your magic mushrooms, or whatever it is you do.
