Once  Toronto became an NYC style Megacity under Mel Lastman, that was the death of Toronto the Good.

Interesting observation but I think it’s the total internationalization of Toronto that has transformed it.  You may not like it but many do.  The GTA really could be a city state.  It has the steel, the canals, and even the natural resources.  Long time residents are watching it unfold and don’t know what hit them.  More building here than in any North American city by far.

If you went through the Ontario education system

Actually, on this specifically, I didn't actually, my Beatnik lefty parents sent me to Alternative School, which wasn't really like school at all.

I came back to the public system in High School, but I rejected, I barely even went to class, soon as I could, I dropped out and joined the army.

Building an Americanized monoculture totally devoid of anything Canadian at this juncture.

Which I think is great, but one thing that makes me sad is that the CN tower is now being dwarfed.  When I was a kid it was enormous.

In sections for sure, like Concord Adex.  On the other hand street life has never been better in places like King West or Ossington.

Nothing particularly Canadian about it, its indistinguishable from an American city,  which is why Canadians hate Toronto with a passion.

Check out the Cuban, Brazilian and Portuguese restaurants and cafes along Ossington or the way Wellington and Victoria Memorial Park have been revived.  It’s cool.

I lived in Toronto for many years, I don't need to check it out, but there's nothing Canadian about Cubans, Brazilians nor Portuguese, by definition.

Unless they put on a Blue Jays jersey eh?

As much Canadian as anyone else.  Dont care if they were here for a month or 20 years, Canadian is Canadian.

I am a dual citizen, same as Zeitgeist, I have Canadian citizenship, I have American citizenship too

I simply don't feel anything in my heart for the Post National void which has replaced Canada.

I never was a Blue Jays fan by the way.   My father was from Los Angeles and grew up loving the Brooklyn Dodgers, so I was a Dodgers fan from a young age.

My football teams were the Niners and the UCLA Bruins, though I have switched from the Niners to the Chiefs now, Joe Montana team II

I never liked the Raptors until they traded for Kawhi, now that he's gone, my interest in the Raptors has gone too.  I'm not really a basketball fan.

I am a Toronto Maple Leafs fan, but that's more of a curse.  I don't love them like I used to though, the NHL disgusts me now, it's not my NHL anymore.

I’ve been following the Raptors for many years.  Guys like Lowry are the heart of the team.  Kawhi was great but he’ll never get the love he had in Toronto anywhere else.  Ask Joe Carter.

I think the Toronto you like is more of the Yorkville village scene, which is all high end international real estate.  But some of the roughest areas are now happening, like Leslieville and Parkdale.  The old Victorian areas are doing well, but for me it’s about the old band venues like the Dakota and the Latin vibe invading the Victorian.  The monoculture Hong Kong-style towers are paying for some of the revival, so I take the good with the bad.

Nah, my neighborhoods in Toronto were the Annex, Corso Italia, and the lower East Side, Regent Park and Moss Park.

We lived in the Annex in the 70's,  Corso Italia is not Little Italy, Corso Italia is St. Clair and Dufferin.

Yeah I prefer Little Italy on College.  Corso is great too, less gentrified.

Hey I like California too, but as you know, there are many Californias.  It’s a la la land in many ways, like BC.  I’ll take a neighbourhood like Coronado in San Diego.  What’s not to like?

Democrat traitors to the republic.   I prefer Nevada now.  Lake Tahoe.

Never been but I’ll get there.  Out of convenience it’s Florida for me, which is more Republican outside Miami.  Cheaper than California but not as varied.

I like Florida too, I like all of Dixie, but for California access, I prefer to sit just across the border in Nevada, for legal, tax, and gun rights purposes.

I still like to visit California, I just wouldn't want to live under the government there.

Not buying this world leaders need to act hyper serious all the time stuff. It was a harmless joke and Trump got Trudeau back far worse by calling him Two-Faced, it's not a big deal.

You don't have to buy any of it,  may be it's a military thing , or maybe it is the right thing to do, I mean you don't smack the queen in the arse and ask her how it's hanging right, there is a certain code of conduct.....And making fun of the most powerful man in the world is a stupid thing to do, it is a retarded thing to do if it is trump....who I might add gave Justin a free pass when it comes to spending on our Military ….and the final slap he represents all Canadians when he is out in public, want to tell jokes be a comedian not the PM.... Do you not think there is higher standards to meet when your the Nations leader, one of the highest offices one can have in this country....

Normally I would agree with you no harm no foul, it was all in fun....but why take a risk , when the biggest thing to be gained was a smile from another world leader....when we all know that Mr Trump can and has taken action for much less...would you be of the same opinion if he does take action on our GDP % or places sanctions as he has threaten to do...

We, the willing, led by the unknowing, are doing the impossible for the ungrateful. We have now done so much for so long with so little, we are now capable of doing anything with nothing.

That whole episode said more about Trump’s fragility than it did Trudeau, who said nothing of any concern. He commented on the length of the press conference.  So what?  It was like when Trump put Trudeau on the spot about NATO funding or when he called Trudeau weak or meek and mild.  It’s the same narrative I remember watching over social media (out of Ukraine?).  Nobody was fooled.  Trump will always be remembered as a bully and wannabe fascist.  I respect his nerve when he takes up the right causes, for example, on Syria’s use of chemical weapons or China’s IP theft.  Trump’s tariffs are a blunt instrument and he has damaged relations with allies.  Trudeau, Macron, Bojo, and others commiserate about Trump because they think he’s a dick and they’re right.  At least they don’t call him names.  Trump has called Trudeau and others many names and it’s unstatesmanlike.

This is not about Trump, this is about our PM and what he said....you may shrug your shoulders and say who cares....Trump cares and his behavior is not new to us, we have all been exposed to it , and we all know what to expect....And when your the President of the US the most powerful nation in the world you can be what ever you want to be to whom ever you want to....And the there is dozens of cases that prove just that....So why would Justin place our nation in danger of any actions trump might take....it is not a smart move, in fact it is stupid move...

We, the willing, led by the unknowing, are doing the impossible for the ungrateful. We have now done so much for so long with so little, we are now capable of doing anything with nothing.
