New Zealand Mosque Massacre

Recommended Posts

Surprising that there is not already a topic started to discuss the mass shooting in two New Zealand mosques by an alleged Australian national.   This was news around the world but perhaps no longer surprising ?

Let's turn to the good old CBC to summarize things nicely:

Quote

Attacks on two New Zealand mosques took the lives of 50 worshippers March 15, 2019, and left dozens more wounded when a man believed to be a white supremacist opened fire and live streamed the shootings.

New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern said the massacre during Friday prayers is "one of New Zealand's darkest days."

Compare and contrast with previous mass shootings around the world.    Is New Zealand "different" ?

I think the PM is different in that she is promising to cover all funeral costs and actually wore a hijab while comforting people.

The Accident Compensation Corporation, or ACC, is the country's organization that covers all of its citizens and visitors under a no-fault scheme if they're injured in an accident, according to its website. ACC provides financial compensation to help with the cost of recovering from an accident, including "payment towards treatment, help at home and work and help with your income."

I think it is quite surorising that there is such a high rate of immigration into NZ. Yes, it is an English-speaking country and therefore attractive as a destination for immigration.

But it is so remote and far away from anywhere. In this day and age of the internet and other modern methods of communication location has lost a lot of meaning but not all. NZ is still as remote as you can get.

We got to stop reward deserters. When are they going to take responsibility for their own countries? If they tried to fix their own economy, they wouldn't need to come to ours.

Western taxpayers shouldn't be forced to bail them out. If they neglect their own countries, then they shouldn't be granted asylum.

They can have everything we have, but they need to build their own economies.
