This was news around the world but perhaps no longer surprising ? Yes, it is an English-speaking country and therefore attractive as a destination for immigration. But it is so remote and far away from anywhere. In this day and age of the internet and other modern methods of communication location has lost a lot of meaning but not all. NZ is still as remote as you can get. If they tried to fix their own economy, they wouldn't need to come to ours. Western taxpayers shouldn't be forced to bail them out. If they neglect their own countries, then they shouldn't be granted asylum. They can have everything we have, but they need to build their own economies.
