People sleep on Kadri too. Edited July 2, 2019 by Yzermandius19

Indeed, Barrie is a good fit for the Leafs in the Tavares - Matthews window, but most teams wouldn't offer a legit 2C on a cap friendly contract for a Barrie rental.

Clearly they mistakenly thought the return was going to bigger than it was, idiots probably thought we were going to snag Nylander or some shit. Dream on homers, Barrie rental ain't that valuable. Kerfoot is also going to arbitration, so the Leafs aren't getting a long term deal with him neither, he's a little small to play center for Babcock too, so Kerfoot may get moved again, I don't think the Leafs have long term plans for him, they just needed a stop gap to fill in for the loss of Kadri, but looking at Kerfoot's metrics, he's actually pretty good, not that much of a drop off from what Kadri did last season. He's good at faceoffs, but soft and plays on the perimeter, and he never shoots the god damn puck. Good playmaker though, Poor Man's Tanguay who can win a draw. Edited July 2, 2019 by Yzermandius19
Yzermandius19 Posted July 2, 2019 Report Posted July 2, 2019 (edited) Also Kerfoot was a completely found wallet, who is what he is at this point, so the Avs traded a rental and found wallet for Kadri, Rosen and a better pick. The haters can bitch all they want, Sakic did good here. Just because Dubas did good too, does not mean Sakic got fleeced. Edited July 2, 2019 by Yzermandius19

Holy smokes, 55-60% FO%, I spoke too soon, if he wins draws like that, Babcock's gonna love him, He's got good defensive numbers too, with mettics like this he could end up being a Babs favorite, it's not like they need the 3C to put up lots of points, defensive face off specialist is what the Leafs want there. Yzermandius19 Posted July 2, 2019 Report Posted July 2, 2019 (edited) He's a defensively responsible, streaky, playmaking, perimeter winger, who wins draws, and passes up open shots. A solid middle six forward who can move around the lineup. That's Kerfoot in a nutshell. Edited July 2, 2019 by Yzermandius19

Small streaky perimeter forwards who pass up open shots is the drawback, and that's not what Babcock is looking for. You'll love him one day, and hate him the next, he'll bounce around the Leafs middle six, sometimes at center, sometimes on the wing. He won't get any 2C time unless Matthews or Tavares is hurt, but in a pinch he can do that. Edited July 2, 2019 by Yzermandius19

Like I say, he might be on the move again, depending on what he gets from the arbitrator, the Leafs may decide to package him in another trade, I see the bottom six as being in flux anyways, people not named Kapanen and Johnsson are basically auditioning for roles there, the Leafs may go into the season keeping their options open, then try to add at the deadline or approach to when the cap hits are mostly paid off.
Yzermandius19 Posted July 2, 2019 Report Posted July 2, 2019 (edited) Enjoy the cheap Barrie rental, hope he kills it for you in a contract year and stays healthy. I'll miss him, but it's the best move, especially in the long run. Edited July 2, 2019 by Yzermandius19

Well it's like you say, once you sign Tavares, you gotta be all in, so a Barrie rental is what they need in the now, and there will be more rentals in the Tavares window going forward, but so long as Barrie is paired with a steady eddie, then I think Barrie can be the Reilly of the second pairing/second power play.

Yeah now you got a dope PP QB on both units, and a RHD offensive defensemen on the second pairing. Certainly an upgrade on Gardiner, both in terms of the quality of player and cap hit. Barrie at $2.75 million AAV is as good of a rental as they could ask for really. Edited July 2, 2019 by Yzermandius19
Dougie93 Posted July 2, 2019 Report Posted July 2, 2019 Bottom line, as of right now, the Leafs are Core 7 complete. Tavares - Marner Matthews - Nylander Rielly -Barrie Andersen. Live in the now.

Retaining salary on Barrie was the key, I mean, Gentlemen Joe did do us a solid there, because I think he could have moved Barrie without doing that.
Dougie93 Posted July 2, 2019 Report Posted July 2, 2019 It's like when you get an RHD with a 53% CF who can score 15 goals and 60 points, I'm not too worried about him being the one boxing people out around Andersen, and besides, the guys Barrie is replacing didn't do that anyways, it's a puck possession game now, the best defence is mo offence.

Maybe, but for the next year, the Avs have cap space to burn, so might as well make sure the trade happens. Plus, in the future, Kyle will be more willing to make other trades with the Avs given that solid Joe did him, should the Avs wish to do so. That said, might as well help y'all out, could pay off down the road, and not just on this trade. Edited July 2, 2019 by Yzermandius19
Yzermandius19 Posted July 2, 2019 Report Posted July 2, 2019 (edited) I mean after next year, the Avs still have plenty of cap space, and the Leafs will need more cap space, that could allow the Avs to pick up an asset that the Leafs need to move for cap reasons on the cheap. Retaining some of Barrie's salary could keep the Avs at the top of Dubas' list in that case. Maybe the Avs can get Kapanen or Johnsson in the end as a result. Edited July 2, 2019 by Yzermandius19
