Argus Posted August 13, 2005 Report Posted August 13, 2005 Okay, maybe I'm just bored, and maybe I'm not as mature as I should be, but I'm a graphic kind of guy and I kind of like avatars. They tend to put a face, however odd, to posters. But unless I'm mistaken the only avatars you can use here are the very few, very boring ones already pre-installed. Which, perhaps, is why nobody uses them. Is that likely to change? Shady Posted August 14, 2005 Report Posted August 14, 2005 I agree 100%. I also wish that images could be posted. Quote

August1991 Posted August 14, 2005 Report Posted August 14, 2005 Shaded throttles aside, I find avatars irritating and unnecessary. Leave them out. Quote
BHS Posted August 14, 2005 Report Posted August 14, 2005 I posted my avatar as my personal photo, but I'd like to use it in threads. The first forum that I posted on kept avatar images small and it was a handy reference when skipping through a long thread looking for an old post. I've read other forums since then that allow these horrendously huge avatars that take up the whole screen, which is just annoying and has the opposite effect (the threads are actually harder to follow). Mad_Michael Posted August 15, 2005 Report Posted August 15, 2005 Well, I'm a member at several forums and the only way I can keep track of who's who is by avatars. It really helps to scan a thread with such optical clues. As it stands, I still don't know anyone here yet - thats probably due to lack of avatars. Indeed, I can't even always find my own posts - I often post in a variety of threads on a variety of topics and I can't always remember which threads where I posted - a quick scan of the avatars in a thread usually tells me. Yet another value of an avatar is to scan a thread that I'm interested in to find the last entry of my avatar - that marks my last point of participation and thus I read the posts after my avatar. Again, makes things easier and quicker with the visual clue. Just my two cents worth. Quote
RB Posted August 15, 2005 Report Posted August 15, 2005 When I first joined here avatar was allowed It was distracting to say the least this is a quality forum, why get sidetrack when you can actually be just as entertaining with creative writing plus you are allowed to put your photo in your personal profile anyway Quote
Tawasakm Posted August 16, 2005 Report Posted August 16, 2005 plus you are allowed to put your photo in your personal profile anyway <{POST_SNAPBACK}> And done. Since I've been told its the lamest photo of me ever taken. Quote

BHS Posted August 16, 2005 Report Posted August 16, 2005 Nothing says "Take my views seriously" like wielding a huge knife. Just kidding. Tawasakm Posted August 16, 2005 Report Posted August 16, 2005 I'm glad that my incredible good looks, combined with my obviously aesthetic and refined bearing, have met with such universal approval. Seriously though, Kimmy, you are great with one liners. Quote
Argus Posted August 16, 2005 Author Report Posted August 16, 2005 When I first joined here avatar was allowedIt was distracting to say the least Well, either the size of the avatars was too large, or you are too easily distracted. I'm not talking about naked babes or giant flashing neon here, just postage stamp size pictures. Argus Posted August 19, 2005 Author Report Posted August 19, 2005 So....... anyway.... how about avatars? Do we have a ruling from above? Forum Admin Greg Posted August 22, 2005 Forum Admin Report Posted August 22, 2005 Sorry folks, we will not be allowing avatars in these forums. Why? Bandwidth is expensive, and we're already burning up a considerable amount of it. If we allowed avatars, it would place an even larger strain on out budget.
