AngusThermopyle
Stephen Hawking has Died. This is a true loss for the scientific community and the world in general. His insights taught us about not just ourselves, but the Universe in which we exist. He passed away in the early hours of the morning, March 14 fitting that it was international Pi day. RIP Stephen. https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/science-mourns-stephen-hawkings-death/
Altai
A "scientist" who rejects "existence of a creative power", one of most basic scientific fact. So a "scientist" that simply rejects math.
GostHacked
Yes indeed. One of the greatest scientific minds of our generation. Right up there with the likes of Tesla, Einstein, Sagan, and many others. And for a man who was able to live 60 years beyond the expected time (due to ALS) the guy just kept going. He shall be missed!

Guest
A scientist for whom mathematics was the most important principle. He quite rightly rejected religious fairy tales as stories for those afraid of the dark.
Altai
Hawkings cheates his wife and divorces her, who was married with him despite she knows he was ill and gives him two kids. Does not seem like he was "great" enough.

He sure did: Quote "God may exist, but science can explain the universe without the need for a creator." -- in a 2010 CNN interview. "The scientific account is complete. Theology is unnecessary." -- in a 2010 CNN interview.

He showed us that we aren't some unique singular creation of an omnipotent entity but rather a small part of a greater whole.

The most encouraging thing about the whole story is that she got herself decent bloke in the finish, whereas he had to keep quiet about what happened with her replacement. Give me 'Arts' for human beings, such as they are, and let the 'Great Minds' have space and self-conscious science.
JamesHackerMP
Yeah, I don't care about his religious beliefs, either. He was a great mind no matter what. You can be an atheist and be a great mind. Edited April 7, 2018 by JamesHackerMP
