Maybe. And if the NDP does win a majority, it will be fun watching them try to clean up the financial mess that the Liberals left behind. I mean, Horwath will have a tough time finding a competent Cabinet with the bunch of inexperienced radicals that end up in the Legislature. As Horwath said it will be necessary to hold training courses to prepare them for the business of governance.

Amazing how Trump dominates the psyche and dynamics of an election in a foreign country.

Trump has magic powers in Canada.

That is because here in Canada as you already know does not have a leader like Trump. We only have a pro diversity feminist as a leader in Canada. The Canadian media needs Trump to give them something to talk about. They cannot go thru one daily news broadcast without bringing up the name of Trump. Bloody sad.

And they are still stumbling and mumbling to this day. They just cannot accept the fact that they lost the election. Trump kicked their azzes which was well deserved. Go, Trump, go.

Aside from political ideology, I see a lot of similarities between the Ford and the Clinton campaigns: both determined early that their opponents were so egregious that they couldn't possibly win, SO they could just sit back and do nothing and run issueless campaigns and win just by being the alternative.

Well, it is very much in keeping with past Canadian behaviour....drawing similarities to anything American or American "style" is a mainstay in Canadian political conflicts.  Trump just continues this Canadian tradition and value.

Trump is in everyone's minds all over the world and you're surprised that everyone up here is worried about what the crazy bastard is going to do next?

Trump is the epitome of The Ugly American, and I believe that's why most of the deep state (permanent government) forces that clutter the mainstream with their propaganda are so panicked about Trump! Where Obama and even Bush and Clinton would claim highminded principles of freedom and democracy, Trump just says 'give in to our demands' and it's the same message to enemies and allies alike. But, I've been waiting more than 30 years for Canadians to wake up and realize we never should have signed on to FTA/NAFTA because it was inevitable we'd be screwed over by the United States whenever they decided to do some armtwisting!

Training courses on what? How they are going to make Ontario a sanctuary province even though the city of Toronto is already having a housing crises to try and find places for all the criminal illegals to live in. Or about how to tax more to be able to create a more bigger socialist government? If the NDP had a clue as to how to really run a country it would be a bloody miracle. Their aim is more like how to drive a country into the swamp. Socialist/communist radicalism is not what Ontario needs. What it needs is more freedom, less taxes and less government, not more.

And I'm reminded again that some Canadians can't debate Canadian politics without resorting to comparisons with the US.

Our economies are absurdly enmeshed with the US economy post-"free trade," so why shouldn't US leaders and policy objectives be on our minds? US policy limits what our leaders can and cannot do. Justin being a prime example of this. I actually talked to a few old timers who thought he'd be a radical maverick like his old man. Fat chance of that!  Pierre would have never survived under today's political environment!

The US has enough checks and balances in its system to guard against a President taking actions against the best interests of their country. You may now get out from under the bed, no harm will come to you.

Whatever it will take to get rid of liberalism and socialism. They both have shown that they do not work. All the taxpayer's can expect from those two loser party's is less freedom, more government and more taxes. It is time for a taxpayer revolution in not only Ontario but the rest of Canada. One can only hope that Ford and Scheer can get a taxpayer revolution going that is if both can win their elections. I guess that we must wait and see.

Sure they do! America has no checks and balances...at least not anymore! What they got is a couple of competing circles of power within their system fighting against each other...that is all!

So what ?

The U.S. economy has more trade with China and Mexico than Canada, but Americans do not make comparisons to Chinese or Mexican politicians come election time, especially at the state/local level.

The only ones who are worried about Trump all over the world are the ones who are nothing more than a bunch of deep state swampers in America and a bunch of corrupt and crooked dictators in other countries. They are all afraid or a Trump like revolution happening in their countries. The not so "crazy bastard" knows what he is doing and the thieves are all in a panic. All Trump has said is that he will be fighting for America's interests and not the rest of the world's interest. In other words America will come first, not second or last. Agreements like NAFTA are only meant for big corporations to get richer. The people are usually left out. We the people do not need governments to make deals for us. Leave that to the entrepreneurs who run and want and know as to how to make the art of the deal, like a man like Trump, and make their businesses grow and more profitable. Trump does not need a NAFTA deal to make himself rich.

Trump is hardly an ugly American. Trump is a business man and not a politically correct dummy politician like the ones running and ruining this country. Anyone who says that they want to drain the swamp should be a man to want to listen too and vote for. It is the deep state swamp that is making life hell for all of us with the help of the fake and phony lying liberal MSM.

The dumbocrats are and have always been trying for decades to eliminate checks and balances. They were out to destroy the American constitution and it was working fine for them until Trump came along. Now they are chitting bricks every day now because they see their crooked and corrupt and deep state swamp empire being toppled and drained by Trump. Go, Trump, go. :D

Even if Trump is an ugly American, what in Sam hell does that have to do with a provincial carnival barker election in Canada ?

It doesn't make any sense.....

What the hell does anything Trump has to say or do is supposed to make a big deal in Canada? Canadians seem to have a problem with minding their own business about what Trump is doing. The only reason why Canadians may have this hatred thing about Trump is all due to the liberal media in Canada that keep knocking Trump every day. If the Canadian liberal media would concentrate more on Canadian affairs and less on Trump affairs there would not be all this animosity and nonsense talk and lying going on towards and about Trump in Canada. Trump is not ugly in my eye. :D

These days nothing seems to make much sense in Canada anymore. Our Canadian elections appear to be a carnival of barkers alright. Step right up and ring the bell. LOL.

What good has Trump done?

Ford doesn't even have a platform in writing and its two weeks before the election.  How the hell is he going to run the province, when he can't even make a platform in time?

Ford can make it worse by having no plan causing the shutdown of th eprovince like other hell hole nations run by incompetent right wing leaders.

Ever seen Bulgaria, that is where we are heading under an incompetent leader, they really should have picked someone else to lead.

Obviously, you would not know because of the mainstream lying liberal media who will not report on anything good Trump has done already. It's always just about Russia or that hooker. Taxes are down, some companies were able to give their employees an extra thousand dollar bonus in their wallets because of tax cuts, unemployment is down, millions of new jobs created. When you only prefer to read or listen to what the liberal lying MSM like CNN and MSNBC has to say than you will be given the impression that Trump is not doing anything at all. All you get from them is doom and gloom about Trump. Try listening to Tucker, Hannity and Laura on FOX news every evening for awhile to get the other side of the story. Otherwise continue to remain ignorant of the facts.

All politicians pretty much do the same thing. Most tell you something that you want to hear and dump the rest of their real platform and plans on the voter after the election. They will never tell anyone as to what their real agenda is. The coming debate on TV is where you will no doubt get to hear something from Ford and what his agenda will be.

If the lieberals and NDP already cannot shut down a province or country how the hell is Ford going to do it?  Canada is not a hell hole just yet but Canada is well on it's way to becoming an hell hole thanks to the incompetent left wing liberals who are doing that job just fine today thank you.

The country to admire is Iceland. The government there threw all their crooked banksters in jail after the 2008 banking fiasco. Now that is real leadership unlike the leadership of Obamarama who we saw bail out the crooked banksters in America. The people got screwed again as usual. I believe that Bulgaria is the last communist country left in Europe. It's no wonder incompetency runs rampant in that country.

Too late! The Libs are sinking in quicksand and a last minute round of attack ads on the NDP will look like desperation! They gambled that Horvath and the NDP couldn't get their campaign running again this time and they lost! All of us who make keeping rightwing conservatives out of power the #1 priority will mostly have to pick the NDP candidate...depending on local voting patterns and poll numbers of course.

The Liberals have been desperate from the start - but I don't see any choice for them but to try in any way they can to mitigate their losses......and that means trying to get SOME votes back from the NDP. I have no idea how they'll do it but they've proven that nothing - absolutely nothing, is beneath them. Fasten your seat belts.

You're mostly right - because there are usually three sides to every story - especially in politics. The truth lies somewhere between the CNN slagging and the Fox cheer leading. For substance, I would lean just a bit in favour of FOX - only because of the very real hatred of "everything Trump" that emanates from the Left - exemplified daily by CNN. In any event, Canadians should recognize the "three sides" issue and give FOX and CNN equal billing in their evaluation of US politics.

I want to throw this one on the pile from a Guardian correspondent. Not sure where he's working out of, but he seems to be bang on in his assessment of Doug Ford and conservative populism:

Quote

Doug Ford isn’t “for the little guy” – he’s a mercenary for the millionaire class | Martin Lukacs | Environment

A recent episode perfectly captures the appeal of Ontario Tory leader Doug Ford. Asked about a delayed mining plan in the province’s north, this is how he answered: “If I have to hop on a bulldozer myself, we’re going to start building roads..it will benefit local people but it is also going to benefit everyone in Ontario.” The statement quickly went viral.

In a single gesture, witness the dizzying acrobatics of right-wing populism. There’s the posture of an unflinching maverick, spitting on his hands and getting the job done. There’s the plain-spoken concern for the common man and woman. And then there’s the actual result: a resource scheme that would enrich multinational corporations – who’d help themselves to a 10-year tax holiday – while trampling Indigenous rights and razing one of the last intact wild areas in Canada.

The spectacle has nevertheless dazzled most of the media. The result has been the frequent amplification of Doug Ford’s claim to be an outsider, in alliance with the “little guy,” crusading against the elite – the ones he says “drink champagne with their pinkies in the air.”

Never mind that he inherited a multi-million dollar business from his father, a conservative politician. Never mind that he has coasted on the political machinery of his brother, former Toronto Mayor Rob Ford. Never mind that he spent years as a city counsellor trying to dismantle public services, has surrounded himself with Stephen Harper’s closest advisors, and is now advancing policies that would be a Trump-like giveaway to the wealthiest. Half-baked denunciations of the elite are apparently enough to eclipse an entire career of fealty to them.

The clucking by the pundit and political class about Ford “being unfit for office” has only fed his image as an anti-elite populist. Lying, griping about rigged elections, lurching through gross lapses of knowledge: each time Ford has acted out, the shrieks have grown louder. But his swaggering defiance of the conventions of the political establishment – of civility, proper procedure, and credentialed authority – isn’t mere buffoonery. Getting attacked for it confirms – just as did for Donald Trump – his supposedly down-to-earth, rebellious status.

In case the pundits missed it: this is a pissed-off political moment. People want to vote for rebels – and care less and less how politicians are supposed to talk and behave.

They have good reason to be pissed. Over 15 years of Liberal rule in Ontario, corporate profits have hit record highs while the majority’s standard of living has bottomed out. Energy bills thanks to Hydro privatization are higher, hospital waits are longer, public transit is over-crowded, wages have stagnated, and many struggle to make rent, never mind the distant prospect of owning a home. Ontario has the lowest government spending of any province: this is something Premier Wynne dared to boast about. The Liberals have gone through some death-bed conversions, raising the minimum wage in the face of pressure from social movements like the Fight for $15 and Fairness. But it’s too little to alter the slide into deepening economic and racial inequality, or the perception of an aloof, indifferent government.

So it’s no surprise that when Ford thumbs his nose at the norms of status quo-politics and takes pot-shots at the elite, it resonates. Except he’s chaneling all that anger and discontent not into shaking down the elite, but into shovelling our collective wealth into their hands.

When it comes to Ford’s stated policies, the bubble of fake populism only grows larger. A tax-break for low-income earners? Alongside his roll-back of the new minimum wage, it actually leaves them poorer. The tax-break for the middle class? That would in fact benefit the most wealthy. And those corporations that whinged about a slight increase in worker’s wages? They’re getting a $1.3 billion giveaway. Welcome aboard – you’re being taken for a ride on the corporate gravy train.

Meanwhile, Ford has offered abundant signs – as Rinaldo Walcott and Naomi Klein detail – that he will scapegoat the most vulnerable. He’d restrict abortion access and replace the sex-ed curriculum, scrap a cap-and-trade climate program, and boost a mushrooming police budget. Canada’s white supremacists are cheering him on. And he’s already been caught conducting backroom talks with real-estate tycoons to open Ontario’s unique green-belt to a fire-sale of reckless development. So what was that about Ford’s folksiness? Nothing but a front for an assault on working people and the environment.

The way to win against Ford’s fake populism isn’t to hem and haw about his antics. The way to win is with a real agenda of social justice and redistribution.

The good news is that Andrea Horwath and the NDP are offering the beginnings of that alternative – and Ontarians are starting to pay attention. The party is pledging slightly higher taxes on corporations and the richest to pay for drug and dental coverage, more affordable housing and childcare, and debt relieffor students; taking back Hydro into public control; making Ontario a Sanctuary province that providesaccess to services regardless of immigration status; and ending racist carding by police while destroying the collected data. Their program is far from perfect – and comes after years of a rightward slide – but it represents a crucial opportunity to concretely improve the lives of an overwhelming majority of Ontarians, and move the province in the right direction.........................................................rest at:

A surging NDP can defeat Canada’s Trump – whose folksy act is a front for an assault on working people and the environment

Have you not heard of the Ring of Fire? Billions in untapped minerals. It's been talked about for eons but the Liberals have done nothing to remove the obstacles that prevent the roads and infrastructure from being built. Who else but "millionaire" companies would take the risk to invest hundreds of millions in getting it up and running - especially with all the environmental and First Nations roadblocks. Just another example of how it's almost impossible for resource-rich Canada to prosper. Is the NDP the answer? Hardly.

In Hamilton, we had to buy back the city's waste treatment plant and deal with the costs of upgrades after it had all been privatized to some grifter who failed to live up to agreements to upgrade and modernize the facilities after a rate increase. And conservatives wonder why Hamilton is so unfriendly to their market agenda.

Hmm, so that is why Hamilton is so NDP.  Yeah, privatize businesses only have 1 obligation which is to extract profit, even if it means the complete destruction of the assets and resources.

Just shows that Trump would have gotten the fake universities degree beaten the hell out of him by a socialist candidate like Bernie Sanders.  Where Wynne is hilarly Clinton, and Ford is Trump, And Ford is crush Wynne in the polls, despite being unpopular, he is getting his head smashed in by the NDP.

Trump has raised taxes, not cut them.  He cut them for billion dollar corporations and raised them on the middle class, the rich and the poor.  Unemployment was falling before he even entered office, he inherited a good economy, it will take him 1-2 years to destroy it.

The cons are incompetent and usually on drugs or like harris, ford, etc.  They sell off public assets for pennies on the dollar, and run up high debt, while INCREASING taxes.  Their goal is usually complete destruction of the middle class.  Their goal is to turn Canada into fascist states in latin America with no rights.
