capricorn Posted September 2, 2016 Report Posted September 2, 2016 This whole idea is an incredibly stupid idea that would just waste time and money. I feel pity for anyone even dumb enough to consider it. Hold on. Last time I looked we're still in a democracy. What is wrong with a parliamentarian and potential party leader asking citizens for feedback on certain issues? You don't like the idea? Fine. Let Leitch know. ?Impact Posted September 2, 2016 Report Posted September 2, 2016 For example, criminals do not adhere to the law and order rules a society has developed. Which is essentially the point. Question to all immigrants: Do you intend to be a criminal? Quote
Argus Posted September 2, 2016 Author Report Posted September 2, 2016 Exactly what are Canadian values, and who gets to decide on them. Can we deport the home grown right wing nutcases that flunk the test? Hell, you didn't even want to remove the citizenship and deport terrorists. Argus Posted September 2, 2016 Author Report Posted September 2, 2016 They can ask whatever they want, but the question is stupid since the implementation of the idea would never work. Why would it never work? Half of these people don't even know their beliefs, like executing apostates, or beating women is wrong. And we wouldn't be asking direct questions. You can be a lot more subtle in personality tests than that. Employers use them to assess suitability all the time. ?Impact Posted September 2, 2016 Report Posted September 2, 2016 Hell, you didn't even want to remove the citizenship and deport terrorists. See, your carefully articulated reason has persuaded me. Who will be first in line to take the test? Quote
dre Posted September 2, 2016 Report Posted September 2, 2016 Why would it never work? Because the first thing the government is going to do is announce this change and talk about it on the news. After that there will be a whole pile of stories about how it works. Almost nobody is going to be stupid enough to fail the test. A lot of these people have already filled out countless forms and waited years. Like I said the idea is too stupid to even consider. Quote I question things because I am human. And call no one my father who's no closer than a stranger
Argus Posted September 2, 2016 Author Report Posted September 2, 2016 I doubt it. But the reality is even Canadians don't all share the same values. Mine are sure as hell a lot different than Argus's ROFLMAO. Really? Name a few major values (as opposed to policies where we strongly differ. Guest Posted September 2, 2016 Report Posted September 2, 2016 All you do is make it plain that anyone who misbehaves will get sent back from whence they came with no right of appeal. And then stick to that. Easy. Quote
eyeball Posted September 2, 2016 Report Posted September 2, 2016 (edited) How on Earth do you screen for the stuff that's in people's minds? I mean I'd love to screen immigrants for conservatism but it's not like they have extra long noses or any other distinguishing features. This test idea reminds me of ISIS rounding people up and demanding them to recite passages from the Koran. What we could do is make immigrants aware of the fact that Canada is a very progressive country compared to the many countries we accept immigrants from and that our progressive values are the key reason so many choose to move and live here. I'd go on to suggest that it was quite likely that conservatism is what has made so many of the places people come from want to leave. Yes, religion is often bad too but I think its pretty clear that conservatism is what it takes to really make religion as godawful as it is. capricorn Posted September 2, 2016 Report Posted September 2, 2016 Which is essentially the point. Question to all immigrants: Do you intend to be a criminal? You're just being silly. Fact is, anyone who has been convicted of a criminal offence, no matter the gravity, in their native country should automatically be rejected. No sob story, no excuses. How easy is that? ?Impact Posted September 2, 2016 Report Posted September 2, 2016 Tough one. Where did you park exactly? My old van full of diesel fuel and fertilizer at the front door of the Dominion Royal Imperial Bank of Scotia Montreal. Do you need to know what day of the week and time? You're just being silly. No appeal. Ok you are being clear. 1. There are 2 classes of citizen 2. All criminal offences are equal 3. Despite living here for almost your entire life, you will be deported to a country/culture that you do not know. I assume you mean no appeal on the deportation, or do you mean no appeal on the criminal offence as well? ?Impact Posted September 2, 2016 Report Posted September 2, 2016 No one has answered the simple question.... how do you determine what a potential immigrant actually thinks about an issue? Same as doing genetic screening of a fetus for criminal behaviour. In the early 70's there was also a lot of support for physiological screening of youth entering school (ie. about grade 1) for criminal makeup. Quote
