cybercoma Posted September 14, 2016 Report Posted September 14, 2016 AD....Islam was not around BC. You really don't have a clue how it unfolded.Oh, so you weren't talking about the myriad other times Alexandria was burned down. That was the joke. Thanks for coming out though. Quote
DogOnPorch Posted September 14, 2016 Report Posted September 14, 2016 Oh, so you weren't talking about the myriad other times Alexandria was burned down. That was the joke. Thanks for coming out though. The last...final...total time it burned...yes...by Muslims. I now know you have zero clue about history. Quote Nothing cracks a turtle like Leon Uris.
cybercoma Posted September 14, 2016 Report Posted September 14, 2016 (edited) Oh the last final total time it was burned. Aristotle was around 384-322 BC. The Library of Alexandria was burned in 48 BC by Cesar and 270-275 AD by Theophilus. I guess Aristotle's survived those burnings because the only one that matters is the one that came 400 years after Theophilus' burning, 700 years after Cesar's burning, and over 950 years after Aristotle's death. Yup. Muslims bad, once again. Nevermind that the library was burned twice before that and nevermind that Muslim scholars had translated his writings into Arabic from which they were recovered (which was the entire point of the status update). DogOnPorch Posted September 14, 2016 Report Posted September 14, 2016 I get the gist: Islam...the Great Savior...saved Western civilization rather than burned it down. Sort of like a South Vietnamese village. Quote Nothing cracks a turtle like Leon Uris.
dre Posted September 14, 2016 Report Posted September 14, 2016 There is no reason to condemn Islamic terrorism because it is entirely justified and the result of or own actions. Theres a reason to condemn it all, and Iv done so over and over again. I WANT the militant minded people on both sides to kill each other. I think it would be fantastic. DogOnPorch Posted September 14, 2016 Report Posted September 14, 2016 Folks will look back and quaintly recall those who supported Islam much like folks admired Hitler for his great works. They existed...as do you. Quote Nothing cracks a turtle like Leon Uris.

Islam invaded...burned...looted...raped...murdered its way across the Medieval World. Quote Nothing cracks a turtle like Leon Uris.
cybercoma Posted September 14, 2016 Report Posted September 14, 2016 (edited) The saviours of Western Civilization is your hyperbole, not mine. I said that things would be different without Aristotle's texts. That's all. Nothing more, nothing less. Edited September 14, 2016 by cybercoma Quote
GostHacked Posted September 14, 2016 Report Posted September 14, 2016 Now you're thinking like an alt-right hack. Good job. YEah this new term Alt-right .. is about as stupid as the term 'far left'. Peter F Posted September 14, 2016 Report Posted September 14, 2016 Then why bring-up Aristotle? Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm????? Because Muslims actually collected ancient texts and translated them and studied them. By doing so they became available to Europeans . or are you going to say that never happened? Muslims looted, raped, burned and murdered their way across the Medieval World...burning down the Great Library in the process. But good news...one of them looted a copy of Aristotle's Laws and Ethics. So we owe them thanks for not being complete SOBs. Quote Nothing cracks a turtle like Leon Uris.

Lots of people raped burned and murdered their way across the medieval world - hell even the Ancient world - hell even the modern world. Why single out Muslim armies as the Great Evil when everybody did the exact same thing? Ever hear of Vandals? Huns? Norsemen? Reconquista? 100 years war? They translated a copy they looted that managed to sneak passed Omar's decree: If what is in the library agrees with the contents of the Qur’an, then it is redundant. And, if the contents of the library do not agree with the Qur’an, then such contents are heretic. ---Omar Quote Nothing cracks a turtle like Leon Uris.

You know very well that the West busted their arses trying to destroy Islam. Hell the Crusades burnt, looted and raped their way through Byzantine Constantinople destroying lord knows what knowledge. Alexandria wasn't the only library in the the world. But, at least you admit that the works of Aristotle and many other ancients, were preserved by Muslims - particularly of Granada - and the discovery of those works preserved by Muslims led directly to the Renaissance and the huge leap forward in Western thought. Good thing those Muslims did what they did. Quote A bayonet is a tool with a worker at both ends
