Why do they use nautical miles, and not just regular miles?

Because it makes doing the math used to navigate way easier. Dividing the (approximate) 21600 miles/minutes that make up the circumference on the Earth by the 6000 feet in a nautical mile is a lot easier and makes more sense than dividing it with the 5280 feet used in a statute mile.

That's it in a nutshell.

Last I heard, there were 360 degrees in a circle....be it Earth or a Compass. But I understand that I MUST be wrong and you MUST be right.

Right?

I can't argue against your comment about a circle or a compass. You have that totally correct.

I don't really care if metric is better or not. To just go and change a measurement system without the consent of the people, which worked perfectly fine, was my beef. I know of no one who asked for the change.

Lots of people did want it, and were happy for the change. The only thing we did wrong was to not enforce the change more widely.

Excellent...360 degrees in a circle in your bizarre Universe, as well. That's a start.

How many degrees are there in a circle in your "universe" I wonder?

Me thinks you've forgotten why you disagree with me...other than just to disagree.

If you think it was you who showed me how a compass works then yes I disagree/

Don't do what Donny Don't does.

whatever the hell that is supposed to mean. Oh well, let me take care of the navigation from here on in.

Right...and let you round down to 6000? We'd be somewhere on Mars...

That's drunken sailor Kts.

I can't wait to hear what you reckon they are.

That's what Captain Eyeball suggests...math is easier that way.

In today's GPS shrouded world...perhaps the missing feet don't matter as the kindly voice tells you to turn left to correct your error.

Remind me to explain the 1 in 60 rule to you one day. You'll be amazed how you can navigate even without GPS.
