August1991 Posted March 28, 2016 Report Posted March 28, 2016 (edited) I hated Windows 8. Now I loathe iOS 9.3 - for two reasons: 1) I told many older people to buy an iPad because "Apple works". It does, they loved it. But Apple wants updates and to update to 9.3, it wants to know your original password. (Apple should have asked for user's cell/handy number.) 2) With iOS 9.3, whether iPhone or iPad, the Safari links (at some point) no longer work. Apple is exposed. Apple was tracking every url link you clicked. Edited March 28, 2016 by August1991 Quote
waldo Posted March 28, 2016 Report Posted March 28, 2016 total? A total one? Just for that? Yeesh... you owe me a minute for the googly time for these: support for older devices can be problematic... Apple pauses iOS 9.3 update for older iPads and iPhones following reports of ‘bricked’ devices likely 3rd party apps you installed: Some users reporting iPhone crashes on iOS 9.3 when tapping links in Safari and other apps . Wilber Posted March 28, 2016 Report Posted March 28, 2016 Just installed El Capitan on a year and a half old Macbook Air. It recognized my password to download and install the OS but now won't recognize it or my security questions to do any updates. My wife's iPad doesn't want to download 9-3. Says she isn't connected to wifi when she is. I'll tell here not to worry about it. I had less trouble installing Windows 10 on an eight year old PC that came with Vista. The Macbook is my first foray into the Mac OS other than an iPhone (which I like) and while I really like the hardware, I'm starting to think this stuff is over rated. kimmy Posted March 28, 2016 Report Posted March 28, 2016 I was really impressed with the Windows 10 upgrade process. It was completely seamless for me... quite an accomplishment, considering the rather old and unlikely combination of hardware devices I have in this machine. Given that Apple only has to make their upgrades work on Apple devices, it seems weird that they would screw up like this. There are only so many types of Apple devices out there to receive this upgrade... how hard could it be to make sure that the upgrade would work on each of them? -k Quote (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻ Friendly forum facilitator! ┬──┬◡ノ(° -°ノ)

I've seen issues with El Capitain and compatibility with a few things. I think Apple is going to run into this more and more in the future. Quote

I've seen about a 20% failure rate with Win 10 upgrades. Some have a flawless update, some, not so flawless. Depends on current software installed that might not be compatible in a Win 10 environment. The solution is testing before launch. Mind you , in an isolated environment it is not possible to catch all scenarios until it goes live. But perhaps they were not testing the update on older handsets. Quote

I haven't run into any problems yet with W10 and the computer I installed it on is over six years older than my Macbook. My wife's ipad mini is just over a year old. Maybe I'll get the password problem straightened out soon and there will be no more issues. Quote "Never trust a man who has not a single redeeming vice". WSC

Wilber Posted March 28, 2016 Report Posted March 28, 2016 We have an "I hate Apple" thread already. I don't hate Apple, I just don't think it warrants all the hype it gets. Apple gets hyped because its products are supposed to work together but you can't connect a ipad or iphone to a macbook using bluetooth, you have to use the cloud. I couldn't believe it. cybercoma Posted March 29, 2016 Report Posted March 29, 2016 Apple stopped signing the verification for older iPads because of the issues. They've already fixed iPad 2. There should be a fix for later early models soon. Until then you'll continue to get the "not online" error. Quote
August1991 Posted March 30, 2016 Author Report Posted March 30, 2016 (edited) We have an "I hate Apple" thread already. It's not a Team A vs Team B question. Many ordinary people cannot use their iPad or iPhone. The links don't work. Why? Apple (badly) tries to track your links. Edited March 30, 2016 by August1991 Quote
August1991 Posted April 1, 2016 Author Report Posted April 1, 2016 (edited) After 9.3, there is 9.3.1. The Universal Links are fixed. All is good with the world. A Liberal with a French-Canadian name, indeed named Trudeau, is federal PM. Edited April 1, 2016 by August1991 Quote
