bush_cheney2004 Posted November 12, 2015 Report Posted November 12, 2015 Qualifications for President of the United States have nothing to do with science or engineering. One must only be a native born American citizen of at least 35 years age. Dr. Carson can comment on any topic he wishes to political advantage or disadvantage. He is probably a helluva lot smarter than Canada's present prime minister. Quote Economics trumps Virtue.
Moonlight Graham Posted November 12, 2015 Author Report Posted November 12, 2015 Carson is obviously an incredibly gifted surgeon but surgeons are essentially technicians, not scientists. 150 years ago, surgeons and physicians were separate vocations with physicians enjoying much higher status. A technician, are you kidding me? You need a 4 year undergrad degree (his was psychology), plus 4 years of med school, plus 6-7 years of neurosurgery residency training, with biology, chemistry, physics, calculus etc. courses up the wazoo. 15 years of university! Is there another profession that requires more complex high-level education and training? Not many if any. To have the understanding of the incredibly complex systems of the brain/spine/nervous system and diagnose/repair them, it takes smarts. Then to think the earth is a few thousand years old and being gay is a choice...say wha?! The thing with religion is that you often don't start believing in it as a free-thinking adult, you're almost always brainwashed by your parents since birth. His dad was a Baptist minister so that explains a lot. Quote "All generalizations are false, including this one." - Mark Twain Partisanship is a disease of the intellect.
Wilber Posted November 12, 2015 Report Posted November 12, 2015 I'm not saying they don't need a lot of knowledge to do their job but when you get right down to it, all they need to know is how something works, how to fix it and the hand eye co-ordination to do the job. Sounds like a technician to me. Quote "Never trust a man who has not a single redeeming vice". WSC

bush_cheney2004 Posted November 12, 2015 Report Posted November 12, 2015 And you need to find a billion dollars somewhere for your campaign. Nope...many vice-presidents became prez without a billion dollar campaign. Quote Economics trumps Virtue.

One must only be a native born American citizen of at least 35 years age. Dr. Carson can comment on any topic he wishes to political advantage or disadvantage. Indeed. He is free to talk, and others are free to weigh the merits of what he says. And for he and his supporters to pout that people who are exercising their half of that equation, and blame it on racism or bias, is decidedly weak and unpresidential. To paraphrase a current conservative meme that's going around: how's he going to face Putin if he can't even deal with people making fun of his stupid theory about the pyramids? -k Quote (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻ Friendly forum facilitator! ┬──┬◡ノ(° -°ノ)
