SpankyMcFarland Posted September 30, 2015 Report Posted September 30, 2015 I agree, she should have just apologized, everyone has said something dumb and inappropriate but it amazes me how many people do it on social media and don't expect it to come back at them. A school trustee claiming they have never heard of Auschwitz.. That's pretty bizarre. It's generational. Younger people see social media like talking. To stay away is social death. When enough of them run the parties, such remarks will be viewed more indulgently. Quote ‘How small we make our worlds. Gather them in, tighten them up into little castles of fear.’
angrypenguin Posted September 30, 2015 Report Posted September 30, 2015 To be fair, I didn't know what Auschwitz was either... Quote My views are my own and not those of my employer.
ToadBrother Posted September 30, 2015 Report Posted September 30, 2015 To be fair, I didn't know what Auschwitz was either... That's not exactly a point to be proud of, and if there's a clearly condemnation of our educational system, I can't think of what it is. Over a million people died at Auschwitz-Birkenau. Quote

Over a million people died at Auschwitz-Birkenau. Yes, now that I've researched it....I understand the gravity. Mind you, I hate history, but I'm pretty sure that it's never been taught to me. Plus, I went to one of the top private schools in Vancouver, so perhaps it's because of that. Perhaps the public school system teaches it. Quote My views are my own and not those of my employer.

angrypenguin Posted October 1, 2015 Report Posted October 1, 2015 (edited) Get your money back. Anyone who leaves school never having heard of Auschwitz got an inferior education. Like giving money to the Liberals and NDP, they're never going to give it back to you. They'll promise to follow up, but that'd be about it Perhaps you're writing a pack of rubbish. How mature. ToadBrother Posted October 1, 2015 Report Posted October 1, 2015 How mature. Resorting to a personal attack I'm questioning your claims as to the nature of your education. In short, I don't actually believe you, either on your claim that you have no idea what Auschwitz was, or that you were educated at a top notch private school. Quote

Evening Star Posted October 1, 2015 Report Posted October 1, 2015 Angrypenguin, you've never seen Schindler's List? Quote
angrypenguin Posted October 1, 2015 Report Posted October 1, 2015 Angrypenguin, you've never seen Schindler's List? Nope. I have heard Ricky Gervais mock the movie though. Quote My views are my own and not those of my employer.

eyeball Posted October 1, 2015 Report Posted October 1, 2015 Get your money back. Anyone who leaves school never having heard of Auschwitz got an inferior education. I learned about Auschwitz in Rochdale Free School from a biker-hippy. Quote I said now watch what you say they'll be calling you a radical, a liberal, oh fanatical criminal
Bonam Posted October 1, 2015 Report Posted October 1, 2015 I learned about Auschwitz because I have relatives that died there... Quote
Wilber Posted October 1, 2015 Report Posted October 1, 2015 I learned about it from a Polish grade nine French teacher who was in one of the camps, with the tattoo to prove it. Quote "Never trust a man who has not a single redeeming vice". WSC
Argus Posted October 1, 2015 Report Posted October 1, 2015 I remember watching old black and white videos of bulldozers shoving huge piles of naked, skeletal bodies into holes in the ground. That would have been in junior high, I believe. Black Dog Posted October 1, 2015 Report Posted October 1, 2015 I learned about Auschwitz and the Holocaust by being a living human being in the post war era. Seriously, how does one not hear of this? How many movies and TV shows and books and what not have been (and continue to be) made on the subject? Quote
