waldo Posted September 5, 2015 Report Posted September 5, 2015 Clearly I'm saying that we shouldn't take in refugees. Tell me, does talking to everyone like they're idiots make you feel smarter? How about just sticking to the discussion? I didn't say you were an idiot... I pointedly kept it non-personal and targeted your post content. but you've certainly one-upped anyone around here... or any political leaders/parties. Completely turning your back on refugees is a new high low! Quote
Smallc Posted September 5, 2015 Report Posted September 5, 2015 Say what? I'm saying that we should be working to improve safety, living conditions, and economic opportunity in their countries of origin. The refugee program helps only a select few that are lucky enough to get over here at very great cost to us. We can do better things with our money. Quote

You did no such thing and in fact did the exact opposite. Stick to the topic and keep the snipping to yourself. but you've certainly one-upped anyone around here... or any political leaders/parties. Completely turning your back on refugees is a new high low! I prefer to help a far larger number of people than the lucky few who get to come here. I don't need a party leader to speak for me. Quote
WestCoastRunner Posted September 5, 2015 Report Posted September 5, 2015 (edited) Pat Carney has suggested we immediately take in 100,000 refugees. Sounds like a good plan to me. On the other hand, an Egyptian billionaire has agreed to purchase an island to house up to 200,000 refugees. It's not the the first time I have heard of this. A few weeks back, CBC radio interviewed someone discussing this very idea, but I can't recall who it was. It's sounds like a feasible plan to me. You can read more here. eyeball Posted September 5, 2015 Report Posted September 5, 2015 You know there's no chance of that being successful. Iran is not going to stop funding Shiite groups. Various uber rich types in the gulf countries and Saudi Arabia will not stop funding the others. There are tons of unofficial arms suppliers who can't be stopped. And if someone told you to jump off the bridge too you'd just jump right after them wouldn't you? And even if you could you can count on the Russians, Chinese, and even the North Koreans gladly supplying any weapons cold cash can buy. And yes we could stop them if we really wanted too. Why should Russia and China continue to count on the trade and investment opportunities we gladly supply? Quote A government without public oversight is like a nuclear plant without lead shielding.
Smallc Posted September 5, 2015 Report Posted September 5, 2015 Pat Carney has suggested we immediately take in 100,000 refugees. Sounds like a good plan to me. Given the very small number of people that will help in percentage terms and the massive cost to Canada's social programs, what makes that a good plan? Quote

Army Guy Posted September 5, 2015 Report Posted September 5, 2015 dropping from 5th to 15 place... apologist much, hey! Care to quote/cite where you read anyone speaking to 25,000... TOMORROW... NO QUESTIONS ASKED? I'm not an apologist, but i'm not thinking that dropping a few points on some list, is a matter of national importance that would take over an election campaign......i think it is being used to gain votes..... Are you denying the liberals said they wanted to take in 25,000 immediately.... Quote We, the willing, led by the unknowing, are doing the impossible for the ungrateful. On Guard for Thee Posted September 5, 2015 Report Posted September 5, 2015 Exactly but that's not going to happen anytime soon. It could if we get the vote right come October. Quote
Smallc Posted September 5, 2015 Report Posted September 5, 2015 Canada has the resources to do this. Don't be fooled by Harper. Canada doesn't even have the resources to fulfil our own needs. We have a massive infrastructure deficit, communities and households without safe water (not just aboriginal ones), etc. etc. Quote

Smallc Posted September 5, 2015 Report Posted September 5, 2015 And who pays for that? We do. We put the massive cost of resettling refugees to better use. That money will go much further in third world countries than it will in Canada (I don't see war fighting as being the largest component of this type of thing). Quote
