Ashley Madison Data Dump

Recommended Posts

The people who logged on to the site assumed anonymity. We may disagree if there is such a thing on the Internet.

I believe that the story here is that a list of identifiable people is distributed. The commonality of those on the list is that they are interested in having an affair, generally considered an immoral act. That list may or may not be accurate and I hope that the hackers are located and taken to court by those who have been wrongly assumed to have joined the site.

It is not illegal to have an extra marital affair. It is not illegal to be gay and to keep that information to yourself.

What if a gay site was hacked and the hackers decided to publish the list of all those people who accessed the gay site or looked at gay porn or downloaded gay materials - many of whom are "still in the closet" or many who had logged on with another persons name?

My position is that individuals have the right to privacy. Breaking that privacy by illegally accessing some private data base is illegal, immoral and should be prosecuted. To publish the names is illegal, immoral and should be prosecuted. To pursue the story by referring to individuals in other media is immoral - and may be an error. This is one bell that cannot be unrung.

To use the product of an illegal activity I believe is also illegal - unless you believe that the end justifies the means.

I don't hate all Christians, Sharkman, just the ones who go around attacking other people who don't share their beliefs.

If this were some regular Christian who was unhappy in their marriage or made a mistake or whatever, I would take no joy in it.

But since this happens to be a guy who was the executive director of a political lobby group that spent its time attacking rights for gay people under the pretense that gay marriage is destroying traditional marriage.

You know what destroys traditional marriage? Josh Duggar.

Fair enough, though I never said you hate all christians. Is this guy even a christian? I have no idea, never heard of him before. But being that Obama's name was among the membership at this site(I agree it's pretty seedy), it's obvious that people could sign up with any name they thought up. It's a sad commentary on a society that sites like this can get over 30 million to sign up.

So did Barak Obama. I don't think anyone can draw an conclusions from someone's name being included in the dump.

This is why I always use my father in laws' name when signing up. ;)

Sure, there is some uncertainty.

But it certainly seems to be a fit given his molesting profile.

Oh, right, I'm not allowed to profile white Christian people. Gotta save it for the browns only.

I don't really care enough about some blogger in the US that I never heard of to bother investigating whether this guys info was real or a plant by some enemy (clearly the guy has enemies). The only relevant information is 'login names are easy to fake therefore they provide no information worth commenting on'. Edited by TimG

Who would use their own name and/or real information that could be traced back to them for a service like this? What possible reason would there be to have multiple accounts under the same name? It doesn't make sense.

Josh has admitted to the cheating and Ashley Madison accounts: http://www.duggarfamily.com/2015/8/statements-from-jim-bob-and-michelle-duggar-and-josh-duggar

I have been the biggest hypocrite ever. While espousing faith and family values, I have secretly over the last several years been viewing pornography on the internet and this became a secret addiction and I became unfaithful to my wife.

I am so ashamed of the double life that I have been living and am grieved for the hurt, pain and disgrace my sin has caused my wife and family, and most of all Jesus and all those who profess faith in Him.

I brought hurt and a reproach to my family, close friends and the fans of our show with my actions that happened when I was 14-15 years old, and now I have re-broken their trust.

The last few years, while publicly stating I was fighting against immorality in our country, in my heart I had allowed Satan to build a fortress that no one knew about.

As I am learning the hard way, we have the freedom to choose to our actions, but we do not get to choose our consequences. I deeply regret all hurt I have caused so many by being such a bad example.

The Christian right in the US will no doubt support Josh in his quest to persecute faithful, law abiding, non-child diddling, gay couples as he re-finds Jesus again and again. They'll use some 'the devil made him do it' type excuse and overlook the fact that he is a cheater and molester. However, can you imagine the response if they found out he was gay or even *shudder* and atheist? I expect that the 'pro-family' Christian righties can accept child molestation, hypocrisy, cheating on your wife and betraying your kids but being gay or atheist would be unforgivable. That's how messed up their 'morals' have become.

If Joe or Suzie from Winnipeg had accounts at Ashley Madison, I really couldn't care less. But we're talking about a guy who worked as executive director for a political action lobby group whose focus is demonizing liberals and gay people for "destroying families".

-k

So what? Maybe they were destroying families the same time he was.

You do a fair bit of demonizing toward those who disagree with your socialist progressive views. But you're full of your own style of self-righteousness. One of the reasons I changed from my socialist progressive views was because of hypocrites like you. Your own side is as hateful and intolerant of the other side, as much as you claim the other side is intolerant of your favourite flavour of the month.

What? So Duggar is not a hypocrite? It's not a progressive view of an open marriage that this man is putting forth. He wants to stand for family values, but his actions hardly espouse of one who does.

I find this whole thing to be really really sad. Hackers might be looked at as unethical, ...... when you expose the members of a website of which it's whole purpose is to hook up people who want an affair, cheat on their spouses. But then you have people cheating on their spouses who are now upset because they got caught.

Josh has admitted to the cheating and Ashley Madison accounts:

No mention of Ashley Madison whatsoever in that confession. Certainly nothing that answers what I asked:

If he did or didn't do it, it doesn't make sense either way -- why use your real name, your real contact info, why have multiple accounts?

Cheating is accepted in our society, so what's the big deal?

Yes, quite the coincidence that he would issue a statement stating "I have been unfaithful to my wife" and "I am ashamed of the double life..." would be issued so soon after the Ashley Madison data dump.

Another Christian hypocrite bites the dust.

Yes, his sisters who he molested and one of their friends would be among his enemies.

But given the statement issued it is clear that he is admitting to it so too bad, so sad for him and the resulting consequences.

I certainly am glad that their TV program is off air and will now remain off air.

Typical Christian fundamentalists in action - preach as a I say not as I do.

*facepalm*

No using his name didn't make sense, but he admitted to being a cheater and leading a double life. So we now know that on top of being a degenerate child molester, cheater and hypocrite, the Christian right golden boy is also stupid.

Just like limosine liberals that preach benefits of energy poverty to 'save the planet' while living extravagant lifestyles.

Sure, I suppose there are some people like that.

Or like me: invest like hell in natural gas, solar and wind and watch the coal and oil business decline into a fraction of what it was...

But enough thread drift.

I don't think he's anyone's golden boy. I'd never even heard of him until last week.

He was on a reality show, and those are all fake. That already tells you all you need to know about how sincere he is.

In addition to being on a show, Josh was a major part of a the extremely well funded Christian hate group known as the Family Research Council. Every Republican candidate vying for the nomination, sought out photos with the Duggars....well until a couple of months ago when the molestation stories surfaced. Even then some of the Repubs defended these 'family values', Christian superstars. What's more Christian than molestation, adultery and well funded bigotry?

Here's the thing. He signed up under a fake name and fake email account, but guess what: Ashley Madison requires a *real* credit card. The hackers found a credit card registered to his real name at his real address. I suppose you could try and argue that maybe some scammer managed to get a credit card under Duggar's name and address, but Ashley Madison was able to bill the credit card for 2 years. The credit card issuer wouldn't let an account go delinquent for 2 years, so the card must have been valid. Which means it must have been Duggar's real credit card.

Duggar isn't "some blogger". He's first off best known from the "19 Kids And Counting" TV show, where his family espouses family values (as well as the values of the Quiverfull movement...) The Duggar family are somewhat like the Duck Dynasty's Robertson family in the sense that they were big TV advocates for religion. They've also been

But more recently he has been Executive Director of the Family Research Council, a far-right Christian political lobby group. They're active in lobbying for "pro family" (ie, anti-gay, anti-feminist) political causes. Josh is a guy who, until he got outed for molesting his sisters as a teenager, had friends in high places.

For example, here's Josh with presidential contender Ted Cruz:

For example, here's Josh with presidential contender Mike Huckabee:

For example, here's Josh with presidential contender Rick Santorum:

For example, here's Josh with presidential contender Rand Paul:

I think you get the point. For a certain branch of Republican candidates, the endorsement of the Duggars and/or the Family Research Council is something that resonated with their supporters.
