College Football player hits a woman on video

This story is juicy. It's got both race and gender issues and throws in a bit of sports.

http://espn.go.com/college-football/story/_/id/13215817/deandre-johnson-was-provoked-woman-racial-remarks-lawyer-says

Former Florida State quarterback De'Andre Johnson's attorney, Jose Baez, told NBC News on Tuesday that his 19-year-old client punched a woman in the face after she called him racial epithets and provoked him.

Johnson, a redshirt freshman from Jacksonville, Florida, was dismissed from FSU's team by coach Jimbo Fisher on Monday night, hours after the state's attorney's office released surveillance video of him striking the 21-year-old woman in a Tallahassee, Florida, bar on June 24.

Johnson, who was named "Mr. Football" in Florida as a senior at First Coast High School in 2014, is charged with misdemeanor battery. Baez entered a written not guilty plea on his client's behalf on July 2. Johnson is scheduled to appear at a case management hearing in Leon County Court on July 22.

Appearing on NBC's "Today" show Tuesday, Baez said Johnson was not the initial aggressor, but is "owning this" and trying to learn from the experience.

Baez said the woman raised her fist and shouted "racial epithets" at Johnson after he accidentally made contact with her while they waited to order at the bar.

If it's true that she called him the N-word, Is there any excuse for this? Does this woman get flak and will she be accused of being a racist? What trumps what?

Clearly assault is a crime but we can see that on the internet homophobia and racism can ruin people's lives because of the backlash from Social Justice Warriors.

I don't think punching a woman in the face is ever excusable. But is calling a black guy the N-Word ever excusable either? Are both parties going down over this altercation.

It will be interesting. We have a white female, racist, drunken aggressor who takes a punch at a black guy. The question is; does being a drunken aggressive racist (who punched a black guy) get cancelled out because she's a female? If so, should blacks be angry, should men, is this white privilege or female privilege?

If it was a black woman, the outrage would be comparable. See Ray Rice. But because it's a white woman who allegedly called him the N-word it complicates things.

Why ? If she assaulted him first, then self defense means he walks, irrespective of any "racism".

Do you think the criminal justice system has anything to do with this? This is the age of the internet.

Bill Cosby has never been charged with a crime, who cares? the court of public opinion has convicted him dozens of times over.

Ray Rice went through the justice system without much penalty. Once the video became public his NFL career was over.

Another factor is that he was on FSU. The same program that had to deal with Jamis Winston's rape allegations.

Those are different cases...Duke's team got hosed by public opinion too.

If this woman "threw the first punch"....game over.

Do you think he's ever going to play a down for FSU ever? He was only charged with misdemeanor battery.

FSU knew she threw the first punch but still cut him.

The question is, can a man hit a woman in self dense and not face a public backlash? AND! Does does the allegation that she used a racial slur change things in the public's mind?

Of course a man can "hit a woman" in self defense...hell...he can even shoot her if he has too. Racial slur is just spice for the story.

If you watch carefully you can see she reaches the bar first. When he arrives he grabs the underside of the bar and forces his way in pushing her forcefully in the process. She turns and says something to him as he continues to push. She has her arm bent or cocked if you will. He grabs her arm. She tries to pull her arm away but he doesn't let go.She then raises her knee and tries to use it to push against him. He still keeps hold of her. This is the point at which she strikes him. He then strikes back, considerably harder. He then runs away like a little bitch.

So, leaving out all the bullsh*t about racial slurs (as there is no audio that's just speculation, conjecture and hearsay)it would appear based purely on what is shown that he is the aggressor. Her striking out at him was a response to him confining her.

What I don't get is why a man would want to hit a woman knowing his strength would outpower her in a heartbeat. Why would he not take the highroad and just hold her off with his strength. A man hitting a woman is just plain low imo, even if she struck the first blow. Take the high road men and be classy!

My question is; why did she take the first punch?

You don't know that for sure and even if she did, my statement still stands. The man with the obvious strength over her should take the high road as he knows that by hitting her, he could do serious damage.

So, little drunk white racist girl should call a dude "nigger" and proceed to take a swing at him - with no accountability?

P.S - I'd say she got off light, had it been a small white man, he woulda likely been taken away by ambulance.

but it wasn't a little white man, was it? This dude should have taken the high road and acted with class.

No it was a girl! So, what makes this girl so entitled that she thinks she should be able to act that way toward someone who is clearly much bigger and stronger?

She's not entitled, but I see that you missed my point.

No, I get your point just fine. Like I said way earlier, you'll forgive everything the girl did simply because...Well, she has a vagina.

Your point, as always; The man should take whatever a female dishes out - end of!

BTW - He tried to hold he off, she proceeded to kick (or knee) him and punch him in the face.

You do realize that is almost diametrically in opposition to anything you've ever posted here in terms of equality of the sexes, right?

Seriously, do women not have equal rights and responsibilities? Are they not capable of the same level of self-control?
