cybercoma Posted July 1, 2015 Report Posted July 1, 2015 None of the Arcade Fire albums are on that list. Come on, man! That's laughable. They won the Grammy in the U.S. for album of the year in 2011 because apparently America couldn't find a suitable American act to give the award to. Quote
cybercoma Posted July 1, 2015 Report Posted July 1, 2015 I think The Weeknd should also probably be on there somewhere. Quote
cybercoma Posted July 1, 2015 Report Posted July 1, 2015 (edited) Alanis Morissette Jagged Little Pill? No? Edited July 1, 2015 by cybercoma Quote
cybercoma Posted July 1, 2015 Report Posted July 1, 2015 Barenaked Ladies doesn't make it either? Quote
Shady Posted July 1, 2015 Report Posted July 1, 2015 Alanis Morissette Jagged Little Pill? No? I already mentioned that one. In terms of influence and sales it should be number 1. It was a monster. Quote

Death From Above 1979 - You're a Women, I'm a MachineThe Sheepdogs - The Sheepdogs Protest The Hero - KeziaMonster Truck - FuriosityA number of Broken Social Scene albums...****ed Up - David Comes to Life A number of Barenaked Ladies albums.. WestCoastRunner Posted July 1, 2015 Report Posted July 1, 2015 (edited) I agree 'Arcade Fire'. What a fantastic band out of Quebec. This is the vid of them performing live on David Letterman: Watch the drummer. Edited July 1, 2015 by WestCoastRunner Quote I love to see a young girl go out and grab the world by the lapels. Moonlight Graham Posted July 1, 2015 Report Posted July 1, 2015 Alanis Morissette Jagged Little Pill? No? Yeah that should be on the list. Also: Matthew Good - Avalanche Quote "All generalizations are false, including this one." - Mark Twain Partisanship is a disease of the intellect.
Mighty AC Posted July 1, 2015 Author Report Posted July 1, 2015 (edited) Several good suggestions. Jagged Little Pill deserves consideration. As much as I like BNL, I don't know if any of their albums would crack my top 10, but a case could be made for Gordon and it just squeaks into the time frame. I also love the Suburbs disc and damn near wore that sucker out. I also loved Twice Removed and One Cord to Another by Sloan, The Devil You Know by Econoline Crush and NC17 by Treble Charger. Though I concede they are unlikely to be considered essential Canadian albums. I suppose artists like Sarah Mac and Blue Rodeo deserve some credit too. What about Our Lady Peace? What would you replace? Typically, my top 10 lists include 25+ tracks, can anyone nail down their top 10 of the last 25? The Sheepdogs. Man. I really want to like that album, but there's just something that keeps me from really getting into it. In a time where The Black Keys are popular, The Sheepdogs mimicked instead of taking inspiration from earlier sounds. I give them credit for taking that risk to reignite a sound from a generation ago, but man. I dunno. It's just been done. Death From Above 1979 is a great addition too, also Broken Social Scene. Though here we get into a particular kind of music that we're favouring, which is part of the reason I mention The Weeknd. He single-handedly got me into R&B when I never previously enjoyed it. We can't be filling the whole list with Metric, Broken Social Scene, Death From Above 1979, Arcade Fire, Stars (who haven't been mentioned yet) and the likes, though that's a great start for Canada's best indie bands. Here's The Weeknd for anyone interested. Explicit lyrics ahead. He's quite possibly one of the best R&B artists ever and hardly anyone has heard of him. Canadian too.
