Canada_First Posted June 25, 2015 Report Posted June 25, 2015 (edited) Perhaps you ignored or failed to understand the number one point published under the NDP segment. Not at all. I understand it completely. The NDP will increase immigration with much less scrutiny and will drastically increase numbers. That just about sums it up. Did I miss anything. Shady Posted June 25, 2015 Report Posted June 25, 2015 LOL! Then why are there so many tradespeople out of work in Canada? Got to love that headscratching conservative logic! This skilled trades shortage is all BS! WWWTT Which tradespeople? Is your answer to that issue completely ignore the education and job skills of potential immigrants? How will that help the problem? Quote
Shady Posted June 25, 2015 Report Posted June 25, 2015 You know there's a population shortage here. Those immigrants grow the economy. Without them you would be looking at deflation. More importantly, why on earth would anyone with skills come here if you're going to slam the door on their spouses and children or their parents, whom many cultures care for unlike ours. You just want immigrants to show up with skills and work their asses off and they can go f*** themselves if they want to actually move their families over, is that it? I don't mind if their families eventually gain citizenship, but education and job skills should be paramount. They'd want to come here because it's likely a thousand times better than where they're coming from. Quote
WWWTT Posted June 25, 2015 Report Posted June 25, 2015 Which tradespeople? Is your answer to that issue completely ignore the education and job skills of potential immigrants? Argus Posted June 25, 2015 Report Posted June 25, 2015 I didn't accuse you of being dishonest. Your wild description of the NDP policy is a bit over the top, but it does seems to fit a pattern I am quite sure you truly believe in. Which is it? Am I being honest or is my description 'wild and over the top'? Can you possibly give a reason why such a policy change by the NDP would be good for Canada, as opposed to being good for the NDPs hopes of sucking up to ethnic groups? WWWTT Posted June 25, 2015 Report Posted June 25, 2015 Let's count the number of people that come to Canada to live vs China. Lol! Ok lets start to count the number of people in each country first. Canada is a virgin country with lots of growing room. There are differences between the two countries that Chinese people are exploiting. Argus Posted June 25, 2015 Report Posted June 25, 2015 My statement stands as is! There is no shortage of skilled trades in the building trades at least. This is total nonsense, of course. First, the job skills which we require of immigrants are not limited to 'the skilled trades'. The idea is that people come here have the education, language, and job skills to be able to obtain a decent job. Second, there has been a shortage in the skilled trades for some time now. That's why when you call up contractors to see about a job you know that anyone who's any good will be booked solid for months. When I called bathroom reno guys in March they were already booked through to the fall, for example. When I called a couple of landscaping companies I was told they couldn't do anything for me until next year. And of course, both will charge very high fees because, well, because they can. Argus Posted June 25, 2015 Report Posted June 25, 2015 We should be accepting many more doctors and surgeons as well. The problem with doctors and surgeons is that the provinces have deliberately limited their numbers, and continue to do so, in order to save money. WWWTT Posted June 25, 2015 Report Posted June 25, 2015 Second, there has been a shortage in the skilled trades for some time now. That does not translate to shortage of skilled trades labour. Landscaping is not a skilled trade that requires a C of Q with the Ontario college of trades. cybercoma Posted June 25, 2015 Report Posted June 25, 2015 The problem with doctors and surgeons is that the provinces have deliberately limited their numbers, and continue to do so, in order to save money. Argus is right here. The example I know the best is here in New Brunswick. The province only gives out so many practice #s for doctors to claim fees. The problem with that is when a doctor "retires" but still wants to practice part time, then he/she hangs onto the number and a new doctor can't begin practicing. The government keeps talking about increasing seats in the schools, but that's not the problem. There's plenty of people who get their education, but then they have to leave because they can't get a number to practice in the province. Of course, then you have the federal government clawing back the funding increase for healthcare, so this isn't going to be solved any time soon, despite the cost of healthcare continuing to rise with our aging population. cybercoma Posted June 26, 2015 Report Posted June 26, 2015 (edited) Very smart move on the part of the Conservative Party. They're not happy with HarperPAC. The party claims that HarperPAC is against the law that Conservatives wrote, banning donations from corporations and unions. How it's against that law is not at all clear. Big Guy Posted June 26, 2015 Report Posted June 26, 2015 The last ad I saw included footage from a CBC political show. One of the last pieces of legislation passed was to allow the party to use news footage without the consent of the network. This could get interesting.
