WWWTT Posted March 14, 2015 Report Posted March 14, 2015 The OPPA is a non profit organization. Not necessarily true. Union pension funds have to increase in value so the members have a fund to continue to draw from. Therefore investments. WWWTT Quote Maple Leaf Web is now worth $720.00! WWWTT Posted March 14, 2015 Report Posted March 14, 2015 The reason it was accepted was the people who had controlling interest of the insurance agency were the ones who made the decision to go with it, in turn making them money. Ash74 Posted March 14, 2015 Report Posted March 14, 2015 In my humble opinion they got busted making a ton of cash using their position to push towards companies they had interest in. That is immoral, unethical and may very well be illegal it all depends on how much influence they used. Oh and for the record I have always believed unions to be corrupt so this does not change my opinion at all. Quote “Show me a young Conservative and I'll show you someone with no heart. Argus Posted March 14, 2015 Report Posted March 14, 2015 I didn't mean you or I.....I mean the new & improved media who look for any chance to portray unions as corrupt. I've been in a union. Trust me, there's tons of room for corruption there. nerve Posted March 14, 2015 Report Posted March 14, 2015 (edited) I don't see this as a federal issue, more so provincial. It is fiduciary responsibility and the requirement to disclose conflicts of interest and abstain from voting on matters where conflict exists. There is a requirement to keep minutes, either they disclosed and abstained or didn't. Edited March 14, 2015 by nerve Quote
Topaz Posted March 15, 2015 Report Posted March 15, 2015 IF they are guilty, they can join CSIS and the RCMP in breaking the law, makes one wonder who the public can really trust.....Security Guards??? Quote

Well this was the expected part.....union executive termination. I'd like to know what the rest of the Board got to see.The totality of the alleged behaviour demonstrates an ongoing breach of trust Who's trust? Not public trust. I still don't see the felony yet. The word fraud has now been used. Would like to see some detail to that. Quote

Maybe not fraud in the true legal definition of the word... yay..... but you don't see anything wrong with what they did? IF it personally disgusts you like this does to me, then you know something is not right. So we need to adjust the laws, or just allow this kind of stuff to happen unchecked. Quote
Big Guy Posted March 16, 2015 Report Posted March 16, 2015 I agree with Bob - I would like to read the details. Those folks who look after pension funds have a lot of leeway as to where/how they invest it. Some have jumped into the speculative market and doubled the pension funds, others have picked losers and bankrupt the funds. I do not know of any funds where the money is put into a bank and sits there - with interest running less than inflation. The devil is in the details. Quote Note - For those expecting a response from Big Guy: I generally do not read or respond to posts longer then 300 words nor to parsed comments.
guyser Posted March 16, 2015 Report Posted March 16, 2015 Perhaps 'arms length transactions' will be the factor in trying them. That could come about from the travel agency demanmds placed on the union workers...aka cops. Quote

Sure I see what has been insinuated as wrong, but I...or you I presume don't have a horse in this race. Not unchecked, there is a civil court to take these mopes to......which I presume the union will do. Quote
