Black Dog Posted February 24, 2015 Report Posted February 24, 2015 We live in a democratic society where the right to lawful non intrusive protest is constitutionally protected. We're not living in a fascist state, and you're acting like we are. "Non intrusive protest" is a contradiction, at least when it comes to effective protest. Quote
On Guard for Thee Posted February 24, 2015 Report Posted February 24, 2015 When the internet predator bill was coming out, a bunch of us phoned our MPs. It was dropped. That's how things work in a democracy. You go through legal channels. I think it was dropped because the idiotic comments by Vic Toews. Harper could see a few votes going south due to the guffaws from the public. Quote
Smallc Posted February 24, 2015 Report Posted February 24, 2015 "Non intrusive protest" is a contradiction, at least when it comes to effective protest. Protest is only effective when it shows government that significant number of people want something. That's why the phone campaign against the Conservative internet predator bill worked. Violence and lawbreaking will get you nowhere in a democracy, except in jail, where you belong. Quote
Smallc Posted February 24, 2015 Report Posted February 24, 2015 I think it was dropped because the idiotic comments by Vic Toews. Harper could see a few votes going south due to the guffaws from the public. It was dropped because thousands of us phoned in because of the idiotic comments. Quote
Smallc Posted February 24, 2015 Report Posted February 24, 2015 Protest is never lawful and non intrusive. That's obviously not true since I've already provided examples. We are now. Dissent is criminalized. . It always was. Quote
jacee Posted February 24, 2015 Report Posted February 24, 2015 "Non intrusive protest" is a contradiction, at least when it comes to effective protest. Ya somebody always considers traffic delays intrusive. Phone/fax/email/website protest can be pretty intrusive too. . Quote

LemonPureLeaf Posted February 24, 2015 Report Posted February 24, 2015 How very patronizing. A clue ...Only when CSIS/Harper decide they may be doing something illegal. And you can bet they will 'decide' that everything they do is legal so there will be no oversight at all.Exactly.Exactly ...we do seem to agree that better oversight of CSIS/Harper's actions is necessary, but ... better oversight of CSIS/Harper is NOT going to happen. Harper has spoken. The dictatorship is in place with secret police to enforce his will against all dissent, all of his enemies (and he has no friends), with no public oversight. Now he just has to rig an election ... or cancel it for secret reasons of 'national security'. Wait for it ... . Has Pm Harper named himself PM for life recently? Quote
LemonPureLeaf Posted February 24, 2015 Report Posted February 24, 2015 (edited) There is were you are allowing the wool to be pulled over your eyes. Protests will only be legal if you have a permit that says they are legal. Again, carry a poster down the street about a pipeline and you are a terrorist. People should be working to make the country better not weaker. We should be coming together to support our government not constantly looking for ways to undermine it. I dont understand the constant complaining with everything the PM does. Are people here really this partisan? Edited February 24, 2015 by LemonPureLeaf Quote
guyser Posted February 24, 2015 Report Posted February 24, 2015 People should be working to make the country better not weaker. They are, by protesting things they do not agree with. Otherwise why would we ever vote? We should be coming together to support our government not constantly looking for ways to undermine it.Stupid legislation is stupid no matter how you cut it. I dont support stupid legislation....and I am sure neither do you Quote

PrimeNumber Posted February 24, 2015 Report Posted February 24, 2015 (edited) People should be working to make the country better not weaker. We are. By being against things that make it weaker, like this bill. Bills like this are exactly what extremists that want to form their own states want governments like ours to do in reaction. It gets us one step closer to what they would want to do to their own citizens. We should be coming together to support our government not constantly looking for ways to undermine it. So you mean to tell me if Trudeau wins the election this year and takes power you will support any and all legislation he brings forward without question? I dont understand the constant complaining with everything the PM does. Are people here really this partisan? I have a feeling your blue partisan stripes will be flying higher than the flag if Trudeau takes office this fall. History, it seems, is to begin with him. And so is this ... A senior Conservative, who requested anonymity, recounted being told that Harper had "read and mastered" the biography and leadership style of Russia's Communist dictator Josef Stalin, and said the prime minister had adopted some of the same tactics. "He plays people off against one another, he attempts to inspire fear rather than respect, he is unpredictable and he is 100 per cent focused on eliminating the opposition." source:http://www.canada.com/nationalpost/story.html?id=eaf90e25-6d16-4156-8cec-a735d758144b&k . PrimeNumber Posted February 24, 2015 Report Posted February 24, 2015 That was a clue. . That was phase one. Removing oversight and reducing transparency was phase two. Reducing Elections Canada's power was phase three. Keeping a watchful eye on dissenters is phase four. I wonder what phase five is. Quote “Be like water making its way through cracks. jacee Posted February 25, 2015 Report Posted February 25, 2015 (edited) You guys are hilarious. When does he open the prison camps?Yes I am curious about that too.Where is the secret CSIS prison? I wonder if they just fill a warehouse with people in wire cages with a pail ... like they did for a thousand+ innocent Canadians at the Toronto G20. http://m.thestar.com/content/dam/thestar/news/gta/2011/11/02/inside_a_g20_cell_video_image_shows_conditions_in_detention_centre/g20_detentioncell.jpeg.size.xxxlarge.letterbox.jpg Puddy was arrested June 26 at about 11 p.m. He was heading to a concert with his girlfriend when they joined protesters at Queen St. W. and Spadina. ... Puddy was sporting a mohawk hairstyle and a black t-shirt that said Police Bastards, the name of a punk band. ... During his time at Eastern Ave., Puddy was strip-searched ... There are 28 people in the three-by-six-metre cell, their hands still zip-tied. The porta-potty in the corner has no door. ... one year after this image was captured, a judge threw out his charges and ruled Puddy had been placed in this cell completely without justification. In this moment, however, it is 12:25 a.m. June 27, 2010 ... He has no idea these are just the early minutes in what would become a two-day detention and 13-month legal nightmare. Now it'll be 7(+?) days of 'interrogation' in a secret prison. Just in case someone somewhere among thousands of protesters MAY contemplate committing a crime. .
