Chuck Hagel, one of the few Republicans who were brought into the Obama cabinet is no longer looking after the armed forces of the USA. Interesting move.

Was this Secretary of Defence booted or is he disillusioned?

Does this indicate a change in USA foreign policy on the use of its armed forces?

No surprise....former Sec'y Leon Panetta developed similar policy rifts with President Obama and his cabinet. Since all serve at the pleasure of the president, they should resign if policy differences cannot be resolved.

It looks like he was booted because of military policy differences. It would be interesting to find out what those differences were.

We'll never know the real story. They could be using him as a scapegoat for recent foreign policy mumbles. Maybe Hagel didn't agree with Obama's direction or vice versa, maybe he wasn't up to the job or he didn't fit in with the rest of the cabinet, or they needed someone with different skills/knowledge, who knows.

One would assume that when a president fires his Secretary of Defence then the reason had something to do with the military.
