Big Guy Posted November 24, 2014 Report Posted November 24, 2014 Chuck Hagel, one of the few Republicans who were brought into the Obama cabinet is no longer looking after the armed forces of the USA. Interesting move. Was this Secretary of Defence booted or is he disillusioned? Does this indicate a change in USA foreign policy on the use of its armed forces? Shady Posted November 24, 2014 Report Posted November 24, 2014 It's very odd to see a somewhat new cabinet member of an administration quit or be asked to leave so early. Quote
bush_cheney2004 Posted November 24, 2014 Report Posted November 24, 2014 No surprise....former Sec'y Leon Panetta developed similar policy rifts with President Obama and his cabinet. Since all serve at the pleasure of the president, they should resign if policy differences cannot be resolved. Quote Economics trumps Virtue.
Big Guy Posted November 25, 2014 Author Report Posted November 25, 2014 It looks like he was booted because of military policy differences. It would be interesting to find out what those differences were. Moonlight Graham Posted November 25, 2014 Report Posted November 25, 2014 We'll never know the real story. They could be using him as a scapegoat for recent foreign policy mumbles. Maybe Hagel didn't agree with Obama's direction or vice versa, maybe he wasn't up to the job or he didn't fit in with the rest of the cabinet, or they needed someone with different skills/knowledge, who knows. Big Guy Posted November 25, 2014 Author Report Posted November 25, 2014 One would assume that when a president fires his Secretary of Defence then the reason had something to do with the military. bush_cheney2004 Posted November 25, 2014 Report Posted November 25, 2014 Chuck Hagel quit because he needs more time to finish his book describing how badly President Obama has bungled foreign policy. Quote Economics trumps Virtue.
On Guard for Thee Posted November 25, 2014 Report Posted November 25, 2014 He got the boot because he openly criticized Obama's Syria policy. Quote
